The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of natural shampoo with green tea extract on improving companion dog's skin. The shampoos used in the experiment are three types of shampoos, natural shampoo containing green tea extracts with natural surfactant, natural shampoo without green tea extract, and general shampoo. The subjects of this study were 15 poodles. After 10 weeks of shampooing regularly, the amount of moisture, oil, pH, and keratin were measured and analyzed on the back and chest area of the dogs. In the case of skin moisture, the chest area showed 26.65±1.37 at T6, 28.09±1.61 at T8 and 28.25±2.17 at T10, indicating that natural shampoo with green tea extract was statistically significant (p<0.01). The degree of moisture in both the back and chest area of the dogs was not significant. The difference between the oil content and the pH value did not show any significant difference among the three shampoos, indicating that natural shampoo with green tea extract was not statistically significant. In the case of skin keratin, the chest area showed 7.60±2.60 at T5, indicating that natural shampoo with green tea extract was statistically significant (p<0.01). The degree of skin keratin in both the back and chest area of the dogs was significant (p<0.01). The difference of skin keratin value did show significant difference 9.81±3.62 at T5, indicating that natural shampoos with green tea extract was statistically significant (p<0.01). On skin observation, a bright red skin tone was found at T5 with green tea extract shampoo and natural shampoo at T10, but normal shampoo remained the skin keratin. The results are as follows: First, according to the result of the moisture measurement, natural shampoo with green tea extract increased at T2 and showed the highest moisture content at T10. Based on these results, it was confirmed that natural shampoo containing green tea extract was influential in the dog's skin. Second, as a result of the oil measurement, all three groups remained stable without any change after showing stabilized values of 35 ∼ 45 at T2. Based on these results, it was confirmed that natural shampoo containing green tea extract, natural shampoo without green tea extract and general shampoo were influential in the dog's skin. Third, as a result of the pH measurement, all three groups remained stable after showing stabilized values of 6 ∼ 7 at T2. Based on these results, it was confirmed that natural shampoo containing green tea extract, natural shampoo without green tea extract and general shampoo were influential in the dog's skin and these findings were similar to the ideal pH range for the companion dog's skin from 5.5 to 7.5 suggested in previous studies. Fourth, as a result of the skin observation and keratin measurement, a bright red skin tone was found at T5 with green tea extract shampoo and natural shampoo at T10 and the amount of keratin also showed a significant decrease. The results of this study prove the effectiveness of natural shampoo containing green tea extract on the dog's skin. The dog's skin increased moisture, high moisture and oil content, pH stability, a rapid decrease in the amount of keratin and clear skin tone. This study proved the effect of natural extract shampoo on dogs, and it can be used as basic data for research on skin improvement for dogs.
