The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of music activities on children's and adolescents' emotional intelligence, and to examine the relationship between the research trends so far and the lower areas of emotional intelligence by music activities. Therefore, the researcher set the scope of the research stating that "children" includes elementary school students and "adolescents" includes middle school students and high school students, and collected the previous papers. From 2001 when related papers were first registered to 2020, a total of 32 master's and doctorate papers were finally selected and analyzed by year, academic field, research object, and music activity. The results of this study are as follows. First, since the first registration of related papers in 2001, there have been minor studies and related studies steadily carried out since 2006. The largest number of studies were conducted in 2016, with 30 out of 32 being master's degrees and 2 being doctoral degrees. Second, 11 papers (35%) were published by researchers majoring in music education, and 21 papers (65%) were published by non-music education majors. Out of all majoring in music education and music therapy, they were actively researched at similar levels. Third, the paper for elementary school students accounted for the most of the total 84%, followed by junior high school students at 16%. Research on high school students has not yet been carried out. Fourth, creative activities were most closely related to all five areas of emotional intelligence. Based on the above results, it was shown that research on middle and high school students was conducted more actively. Also, it is hoped that music activities with validity and reliability will be devised in the improvement of emotional intelligence, and that materials that can be actually used in music education will be provided.
