This study focuses on finding how many infants and toddlers interact in teaching activities through teaching engagement of child care teachers, and also focuses on what the relationship between teacher and infant interaction is. The research questions were set as follows: First, “How is the teaching engagement of child care teachers?” Second, “How is the interaction between teachers and infants of child care teachers?” Third, “How is the relationship between teacher-infant interaction and teaching engagement of child care teachers? The study was conducted on 275 child care teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province. To find out the teaching engagement of child care teachers, the tools developed by Kyungmi Go, Seonkyeong Lee, and Seongkyeong Shim (2014), appropriately modified for child care teachers by transcribing ‘Flow State Scale 2, FSS-2) by Jackson and Eklund (2004), was used. For the tool to find out the interaction between teachers and infants, Myungshin Kim (2017) used a rating scale that was modified and supplemented by Jungsook Lee (2003) based on the child care teacher rating scale by Bredekamp & Apple (1986) and Howes & Smith (1995). The 275 questionnaires collected in this study was analyzed using the statistical program SPSS 20.0, and the Cronbach’s α value was obtained to verify the validity and reliability of the measurement tools. Then, moment correlation was performed to find out the relationship of interaction between teachers and infants and the teaching engagement of child care teachers. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the teaching engagement of child care teachers was identified to have the highest correlation with clear goals among the sub-factors. The highest was self-purpose experience followed by immediate concrete feedback, challenge and technology balance, and the area of loss of self-consciousness was the lowest. This is the result of finding that as a child care teacher, the attitude of attending classes with a clear goal is the highest. Second, emotional interaction was the highest among the sub-factors of teacher-infant interaction, followed by behavioral and verbal interaction. Considering the infants and toddlers that stay in the day care centers all day long, it canbe seen that child care teachers who teach the entire infant have the most emotional interactions. Third, the relationship between teaching engagement and teacher-infant interaction is about how the relationship is. All results of the analysis have shown significant static relationships. It can be understood that the purpose of the teacher’s study, which was planned and prepared in advance when teaching, is to engage deeply in teaching, and that the teacher-infant interaction in teaching activities is also sensitive to the behavior of infants and toddlers. Furthermore, it can be seen that interaction is executed with depth. Therefore, it is believed that teachers need to perceive their own engagement in teaching so that the engagement in child care teachers can be deeply achieved.
