This study set out to investigate the effects of offense only, victimization only, and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence on the suicidal ideation of adolescents and test the mediating effects of aggressiveness and depression·anxiety on their relations, thus exploring a causal path and establishing a ground for specific interventions. The theoretical background of the study included the stress-diathesis theory, general strain theory, and mutual causation theory between depression·anxiety and aggressiveness. The study used the data of the additional children's survey in the 13th Korea Welfare Panel Study. Total 398 participated in the survey. After the exclusion of participants that gave insincere responses, total 391 were used in final analysis. The SPSS 25.0 program was used for the descriptive statistics of the respondents and the descriptive analysis of major variables. SPSS Macro Process 3.4 was used to test the research hypotheses and analyze effects. The analysis results show that offense only experiences with school violence had positive effects on aggressiveness, that victimization only experiences with school violence had positive effects on aggressiveness and depression·anxiety, and that overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence had positive effects on aggressiveness and depression·anxiety. Victimization only and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence led to suicidal ideation only through the full mediation of depression·anxiety. These findings have the following implications: first, they have theoretical implications. The study classified the types of school violence experiences into the offense only, victimization only, and overlapping offense-victimization experiences, demonstrated the effects of these experiences on suicidal ideation based on mutual causality between aggressiveness and depression·anxiety, and provided an integrated understanding of the effects of school violence on suicidal ideation, thus holding its significance. Secondly, the findings also have practical implications. The study demonstrated that victimization only and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence led to suicidal ideation only through the full mediation of depression·anxiety based on mutual causality between aggressiveness and depression·anxiety, thus providing some grounds for the directionality of practical interventions to address suicidal ideation in the groups of victimization only and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence. And thirdly, the findings have policy implications, as well. The study reported a finding that victimization only and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence led to suicidal ideation only through the full mediation of depression·anxiety based on mutual causality between aggressiveness and depression·anxiety. This finding can serve as a ground for policy proposals to enhance social awareness about school violence and thus lower suicidal ideation due to school violence. The study made the following proposals: first, there should be efforts to understand it as a universal social issue that there is overlapping nature in school violence between offense and victimization rather than a dichotomous approach to offense and victimization issues with school violence; secondly, it is critical to take into consideration the coexistence and mutual causality of aggressiveness and depression·anxiety in a practical intervention for suicidal ideation in the groups of victimization only and overlapping offense-victimization experiences with school violence; and finally, it is needed to revise the Act on the Prevention of School Violence and reinforce the Wee Project, which intervenes into the suicidal ideation of adolescents, through manpower expansion and quality growth so that effective interventions can be made into the suicidal ideation of those who have experienced school violence by the type of experience.
