(Abstract)
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of life stress on suicide in adolescents by classifying suicide ideation and suicide attempt, and to provide basic and grounded data for prevention strategies and interventions for suicide prevention by identifying the effects of factors affecting suicide ideation and suicide attempt. The subjects of this study were 807 middle and high school students in Y-gun, Chungnam, and the data were collected through a survey from November to December 2021. 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro ver. 3.5 were used to conduct frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis. In addition, the mediating effect, the control effect, and the controlled mediating effect were analyzed using the PROCESS macro model.
The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. Precedence, the results of the study were as follows: First, whether the hopelessness had a mediating effect on the relationship between life stress and suicidal ideation of adolescents, and whether social support had a moderating effect and a moderated mediating effect. First, the mediating effect of hopelessness was found in the relationship between life stress and suicidal ideation of adolescents, that is, life stress had a significant effect on hopelessness, and hopelessness had a significant effect on suicidal ideation. Second, the moderating effect of social support was found in the relationship between hopelessness and suicidal ideation. In other words, when the sense of hopelessness increases, the idea of suicide increases through social support. This tendency has a moderating effect when the social support is low, and it is significant in both friends, family, and teacher support. Third, social support had a moderated mediating effect on the relationship between youth life stress, hopelessness and suicidal ideation. This result shows that the increase in life stress of adolescents increases the sense of hopelessness, increases the suicidal ideation, but decreases the influence when social support is high, and the moderated mediating effect is significant in both friends, family, and teacher support.
The results of the study were as follows: First, the mediating effect of suicidal ideation on the relationship between life stress and suicide attempt of adolescents was examined, and the moderating effect and moderated mediating effect of personality factors were examined. First, the mediating effect of suicidal ideation was found in the relationship between life stress and suicide attempt of adolescents. In other words, life stress had a significant effect on suicidal ideation, and suicide thought had a significant effect on suicide attempt, and suicide thought had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between life stress and suicide attempt of adolescents. Second, the moderating effect of personality factors was found in the relationship between suicidal ideation and suicide attempt. This means that suicidal ideation increases suicide attempts when it increases in personality factors, and this moderating effect is significant in both depression, impulsiveness and aggression. Third, there was a moderated mediating effect of personality factors in the relationship between adolescent life stress, suicidal ideation and suicide attempt. In other words, when the life stress of adolescents increases, the suicidal ideation increases, and when the personality factor increases, the influence also increases. In both depression, impulsiveness and aggression, it showed a significant mediating effect.
