This paper is aimed at analyzing the later violin works of Arnold Schönberg and deriving the characteristics of the complex forms embodied in the works. There are only two violin pieces by Schönberg, Violin Concerto, Op.36, and Phantasy for Violin and Piano accompaniment, Op.47 , all of which belong to later works. In order to derive the results of an effective analysis, I explored the characteristics of the musical form by conducting a prior study on the musical form and artistry of Schönberg, and then analyzing the notes and the music. Also, we studied stately features and the acoustical effects of violin playing techniques in serial music. In addition, he wanted to help musicians perform and interpret musical instruments that were somewhat unfamiliar to them by presenting various techniques for performing. The Violin Concerto was completed in 1936 and is the second work since U. S. exile. The song, the first concerto composed by a serial technique, has a three-movement structure of fast-slow-fast along with the classical concerto, with the first movement being extended in sonata form, the second movement being a singing form in a composite three, and the third movement being a five-part rondo form. The first and third movement include Cadenza, which appears after the Fermata of Tutti, one of the characteristics of classical concerto, and was also composed directly by Schönberg using the twelve-tone technique. As shown in the genre of Concerto, Schönberg's Violin Concerto contains a number of traditional elements that use the foundation of classical concertos, which coexist with innovative ideas within the music of serial. The use of serial illustrates the characteristics of his later composing technique. The retrograde below perfect five degrees was used in conjunction with the basic serial, and the vertical horizontal development was systematically implemented by tying the serial into six-serial groups. The melody of solo violins using these serial systems is very technical and requires a variety of techniques. Violin Phantasy was composed in 1949 and is one of the last instrumental pieces of Schönberg, who died in 1951. The song was composed using his 12-serial post-composition technique, just like the violin concerto. Especially, because it shows the use of a six-sonic combination type, it shows the method of systematic progression of sound music that he intended and intended. The late-life piece, the expressionist phraseology, which was mainly used during the two periods of his composition(1908-1921), appears in the expressionism music. The violin's acoustics, which use rapidly changing characters, harmonics, and high-pitched pitch, are easy to express the characteristic tone of expressionist music. Also, the artistry, which is melted in the music, is a reflection of his music and artability, which considered the twelve-tone technique a means to "create". Schönberg is used twelve-tone as a meaningful vehicle to amplify his musical world and artistry. Schönberg’s late works, Violin Concerto and Violin Phantasy , include characteristics of his late dodecaphonic method. Moreover, Violin Concerto is the first concerto using the twelve-tone technique as well as worth researching serial music. Violin Phantasy has a significant meaning in that I am able to analyze the expression of expressionism with the violin’s characteristics. In those two pieces, a coexistence of traditional style and innovative attempt represents a feature of Schönberg’s musical style well. The dissertation researches the complex musical style and attempts an analysis of playing techniques through two works, Violin Concerto and Violin Phantasy . Furthermore, I would like to give an opportunity to violinists who are eager to create various interpretations and increase comprehension about Schönberg's violin works.
