This study aimed to develop a blended learning-based parenting program and examine its effects to improve the quality of verbal behavior, responsiveness, and co-parenting of working parents with 1-year-old infants. The parenting program was developed through 5 steps derived from the Theory of Change and the ADDIE model development process; analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating. Considering that both parents are working, ‘Blended Learning’ method, which integrates online and offline sessions, was used, and the circular learning process of 'motivation-learning-trainingpractice- self reflection' was applied. The program lasts for 8 weeks and consists of 4 offline and 8 online training sessions. Offline training is conducted every other Saturday, 60~90 minutes per each session, and learner-centered, participatory learning methods such as lecturer’s demonstration, play, discussion, and role play are used. Online training is also conducted biweekly, but with 2 sessions a week, and each session lasts for 20 minutes. The videos of lectures and demonstrations are uploaded on the mobile application so that the parents can learn at their convenient time and place. After individual learning, students are given some tasks to perform at home and were asked to write a reflection journal. To evaluate the effectiveness of the developed program, 43 pairs of working parents with 1-year-old child residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi were recruited (24 pairs of experimental groups and 19 pairs of control groups), and the parents of the experimental groups were divided into 4 classes. Before and after the 8-week program, parental verbal behavior, responsiveness, and co-parenting was assessed. To examine the differences between the groups and parents, the data were analyzed with ANCOVA using the pretest score as a covariate. The results were as follows. First, the parents of experimental group were enhanced on their verbal behaviors during play interactions. After participating in the program, both the mothers and fathers in experimental group parents used more 'supportive comments', 'real questions', and less 'prompt questions', 'recommendations', 'intrusive behavioral directives' and 'intrusive attentional directives'. Second, the parents of experimental group showed changes in the responsiveness scores. After participating in the program, the mothers’ and fathers’ scores in ‘child-oriented’, ‘sensitivity’, ‘affective acceptance’, 'Involvement', ‘joint-attention’ and, ‘turn taking’were improved. Third, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group on the co-parenting assessment scores. Fourth, the parents of experimental group showed qualitative changes in the performance of their assignments. They showed signs of change in ‘waiting without rushing, empathizing, looking at the same place, spending quality time with their child, and recognizing differences and cooperating in co-parenting. In conclusion, Blended Learning-based parenting program developed in this study was effective in improving the quality of working parents’ verbal behaviors, responsiveness, parent-child relationships, and co-parenting relationships.
