Automobile repair painting is essential not only for restoring the exterior of a vehicle damaged in an accident but also for providing the repaired vehicle with the quality and durability of new paint by protecting the repaired surfaces from external corrosion. However, when conducting repair painting on a damaged vehicle, restoring the original paint color is challenging. Furthermore, it is practically impossible to acquire systematic skills and establish standardized color-quality criteria for the repair painting process because this process relies primarily on manual labor. In particular, the difficulty of restoring the original color through the repair painting process has drastically increased as the paint quality of new cars has been upgraded by manufacturers. Therefore, an improved paint-mixing process is required to address the insufficient color-mix completeness that results from the overwhelming shipment amount. Moreover, the disposal cost of the waste paint needs to be reduced, and environmental problems arising from discarded paint must be alleviated. To minimize unnecessary paint loss during the mixing process and to improve the mix completeness by systemizing the paint-mixing process, research was conducted on a data analysis method using a paint mix information collection system applicable to actual repair painting processes and a data recommendation method that can provide quantitative paint mix standards. Analysis using a polynomial regression model showed that certain paint pigments strongly influence the color change when primary color pigments are mixed. Based on this observation, it was verified that the margin of error can be reduced when determining color-mix recommendations.
