This paper argues that literature therapy, which is considered as a solution to the mental and social problems of adolescents in the middle school education field, has a great significance in terms of active acceptance and utility of literature, and is a research paper to present a literary therapy class model that can be used in actual Korean language classes.
Literature education in school education is focused on 'learning' rather than 'appreciating' literature. For this reason, students are not able to feel empathy and emotion by appreciating literary works with enough time, and they are only accepting them as knowledge based on the analysis contents of teachers and reference books. Moreover, most of the texts of literary works that are encountered through the class are approached as test fingerprints for solving problems that prepare for entrance examination rather than appreciation. In this situation, it is very necessary to expand the acceptance experience of literature by actively utilizing the principle of literature therapy in existing literature classes.
For this purpose, this paper classified the modern novels of 10 kinds of literary textbooks reflecting the current 2015 curriculum into literary therapeutic perspectives. The study examined the problems of 'who am I', which the students of the growing period are mainly concerned about, family problems, friendship, and school life, and classified the theme types by itemizing them. And the possibility of literature class applying literature therapy was searched by analyzing literature works by each theme from the perspective of literature therapy. Based on this, the study presented a teaching model using literature therapy focusing on Eun Hee-kyung's "Consolate Boys", which deals with similar situations and experiences with students among literary works in textbooks classified as literary therapy perspectives so that they can be applied to actual literature classes, and Yang Gwi-ja's "Go to Garibong-dong on Rainy Days", a literary work suitable for applying self-reflection and understanding of others, which are the most related achievement standards to literature therapy.
The results of this study have the following implications.
First, literature classes using literature therapy can play an important role in the acceptance and production of literature by adolescents. Students who spend most of their time in school can naturally draw out their inner stories through novel works in literature textbooks.
Second, literature classes using literature therapy have the advantage of applying it in real classes without providing separate time. It is possible to provide opportunities to reflect on various problems such as self, family relationship, relationship with peer friends, school life, etc. that adolescents can experience.
Third, literature class using literature therapy provides opportunities to accept and produce literature in a leading way through active appreciation through internalization of students besides understanding fragmentary works or intellectual inquiry. This helps to prevent and treat problematic behaviors that students often experience in adolescence, and it can contribute to the continuous appreciation and living through literature in the future.
