This study analyzed the effects of continuous swimming participation on physical self-efficacy and swimming flow. The purpose of this study is to grasp the value of swimming through continuous exercise and to provide basic data for vitalization of the sports. The subject of this study was a survey of 300 adult members over the age of 20 at sports centers located in Dongdaemun-gu and Seongdong-gu, Seoul, and 292 copies were finally analyzed, excluding 8 faithless responses. The statistical processing of this study was analyzed by performing frequency analysis, factor analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 25.0 Version program, and the following conclusions were drawn.
First, as a result of analyzing differences in physical self-efficacy according to continuous swimming participation, there were significant differences in physical stamina, physical vitality, and physical strength, which are sub-factors of physical self-efficacy according to swimming period. In the swimming frequency, there were no significant differences in all the sub-factors of physical self-efficacy, and the swimming time showed significant differences in the physical stamina, physical strength, and physical attraction. At the swimming level, there was a significant difference in all sub-factors except Physical attraction, which is a sub-factor of physical self-efficacy.
Second, as a result of analyzing the difference in swimming flow according to continuous swimming participation, significant differences were found in all sub-factors except transformation of time, which is a sub-factor of swimming flow according to the swimming period. In the swimming frequency, significant differences were observed in all sub-factors of swimming flow, and swimming time was significantly different in all sub-factors except transformation of time, which is a sub-factor of swimming flow. At the swimming level, significant differences were found in all sub-factors of swimming flow.
Third, as a result of analyzing the correlation between the physical self-efficacy and swimming flow of swim participant, in physical competence, physical strength, and physical attraction, which are sub-factors of physical self-efficacy, only a subset of sub-factors of swimming flow did not show a correlation, but everything else showed correlation.
Fourth, as a result of performing multiple regression analysis to investigate the effect of the physical self-efficacy of the swim participant on the swimming flow, in the case of challenge-skill balance, physical strength, physical stamina, and physical competence showed 36.1% of explanatory power to predict challenge-skill balance and had a positive(+) effect. In the case of autotelic experience and clear goals, physical stamina and physical vitality showed 28.3% and 29.8% of explanatory power to predict autotelic experience and clear goals and had a positive(+) effect. In the case of sense of control, physical stamina and physical competence showed 19.6% of explanatory power to predict sense of control and physical stamina had a positive(+) effect, and physical competence had a negative(-) effect and physical competence had a negative(-) effect. In the case of transformation of time, physical competence and physical strength showed 7.8% of explanatory power to predict transformation of time and had a positive(+) effect. In the case of the total average, the explanatory power of physical stamina, physical strength, and physical vitality predicting the total average of the swimming flow is 41.9% and it was found to have a positive(+) effect. As mentioned above, continuous swimming participation was effective in improving physical self-efficacy and swimming flow, and reaffirmed the role of swimming as a valuable leisure activity method. Therefore, it is expected that through the results of this study, continuous participation in sports, including swimming, is actively encouraged to improve the mental and physical health and quality of life of individuals.
