In the 21st century for well-being, skin and hair cosmetics also prefer eco-friendly products without irritats or chemicals. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out how much improvement can be made in hair damage using the natural protein, Mealworm Oil, and to find out the possibility of using the product as a hair cosmetic. We bleached our hair three times to make the damaged hair, and we compared and analyzed whether the damaged hair was improved by utilizing the mealworm oil treatment.
The experiment measured absorbance through the methylene blue dyeing method and tensile strength along with hair thickness to identify the physical and chemical constitution of the hair. To identify the morphological characteristics of the hair, an experiment was conducted to observe the surface of the hair with SEM.
To compare and analyze experimental defects a statistical analyses was performed using the SPSS program to identify the standard deviation of each experiment, and multiple comparative analysis to identify the significant effects between experimental methods.
The results were compared with each sample, and in the absorbance measurement, the difference between the control bleached hair and the 7% mealworm oil treatment hair was verified in the p<.05.
Although the standard deviation value was large compared to the thickness and tensile strength of each sample, and there was no significant difference in the statistical value, the tensile strength of 7TH, which was pre-treated and post-treated with 7% mealworm oil treatment, was 157.52±30N/㎟, which was the highest difference, up from 140.71±37N/㎟ of BH in control.
To examine the morphological characteristics of the hair surface. In case of hair damaged by bleaching three times, the lifting of cuticle is severe and the scales are irregularly separated, while the surface of the hair with the mealworm oil treatment is observed to be adhering to the replacement position, and the overall smooth-looking surface has formed a protective membrane.
As a result of this study, it is believed that Mealworm oil can be usefully used as a natural protein and as a material for hair cosmetics.
