According to research, an increasing number of elderly Korean female are suffering from depression due to psychological, social, biological, physical, and genetic causes. Depression in the elderly female not only affects an individual's life, but leads to social problems. There are 33 more elderly female than elderly male in the standard of 100 people over 65 years old (Korean Statistical Information Service, 2020). Therefore, this study developed a singing-oriented music program based on Aaron Beck's cognitive therapy to reduce the problems caused by depression in elderly female. The program was designed and developed in the order of analysis, design, development, and advice by referring to the ADDIE model. The program was conducted for elderly female aged 65 and over in a total of eight sessions, 50 minutes per each session. Based on the four stages of Aaron Beck's cognitive behavioral therapy, a singing-centered program was implemented to help them correct distorted perception of depression and inappropriate thinking to change automatic thoughts or irrational belief systems. The program was developed by using singing and movement activities that elderly female prefer and suggesting grounds considering the performance and preservation of music and the characteristics of their age according to the aging of elderly female. Finally, the program was completed after achieving validity from two experts and being corrected and improved. Based on such program development, the limitations of this study and the suggestions for follow-up research are as follows: It is necessary to develop programs by segmenting the age range and identifying the temporal, physical, and emotional characteristics of research subjects; by considering regional characteristics and understanding the characteristics of elderly female; and by considering the age, regional, physical, and, emotional characteristics of elderly male.
