The design standards in Korea are set by applying the allowable stress design method to temporary structures. However, it is known that the experimental allowable load certified by KOLAS(Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme) is lower than allowable load derived theoretically by standard code for the allowable stress design. This difference can give a problem since the designer calculated the allowable load by standard code since they cannot expect the used products. Although there are differences in allowable load of temporary structures due to residual stress and reused characteristics caused by the construction method of temporary materials, there is little studies for the exact difference. Thus, experienced design experts have calculated the reduced allowable load which can be obtained by 15-20% decrement to the theoretical design value reflecting the reused temporary materials. This study aims to analyze the changes and differences in allowable design and experiment load and determine those characteristics. The following are the results of the study. First, the allowable experiment load value is re-converge to the allowable design load when the slenderness ratio of the vertical members is over increased. Second, assuming that the ratio of experiment/design code allowable load is normal distribution, the allowable experimental load of vertical members in system scaffolds and system supports are averaged 80.0% of the allowable design code load. It is thought this difference resulted from reused characteristics of temporary structures. Third, comparing the normal distribution of new product of vertical members of system scaffolding and allowable load of design code, the allowable load is averaged 103.6% of the allowable design code load. It means that new products meet the allowable design code load. Therefore, considering that most construction sites use reused temporary structures, it is reasonable that a 20% drop in the current design value can produce results similar to performance experiments of temporary materials on site.
