This study aims to select and present Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject to foster academic Korean language skills for high school students with multicultural backgrounds. As the number of multicultural families in Korea increases, Korean language education-related studies are underway for their children. In this study, the children were referred to as multicultural background students and focused on the problems they were experiencing. Students with multicultural backgrounds are suffering from poor learning due to poor Korean language skills while living in Korea. To solve the problem, academic Korean-related studies were conducted, but most of them were dealing with Korean vocabulary as an accident thinking tool. The reason for students' poor learning was related to their vocabulary related to content of the subject, so this study wanted to provide basic materials for vocabulary education by selecting Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject. And since most of the studies are for elementary and middle school students, this study targeted high school students who were relatively short of educational support. Considering that high school students with multicultural backgrounds go to general classes, through a comparison between the Korean language (KSL, Korean as a Second Language) curriculum and the high school curriculum, I looked at the level and goals that multicultural background students need to have to enter regular classes. Based on him, the subjects(Korean, Korean history, mathematics, and English) that correspond to the basic areas were selected among the common subjects of the first year of high school. Among them, Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject was selected from three subjects, Korean, Korean history, and mathematics, except that English subjects were less dependent on Korean. The corpus data for vocabulary selection were selected from the top three high school textbooks and the corpus data were established after spelling tests and analysis of phrases through the 'Hanmaru 2.0' program. The constructed corpus was collected by each unit of the subject, analyzed the morphemes, and classified according to the part of speech of the representative vocabulary. For the entire vocabulary, select the primary list based on frequency, and the final vocabulary was selected through a comparative review with the vocabulary list of the "International Standard Korean Language Curriculum" and the Korean language (KSL) curriculum. As a result, a total of 920 vocabulary words were selected in Korean, 2,554 vocabulary in Korean history, and 263 vocabulary words in mathematics. The results of the selection were presented by dividing them into each subject units and classifying them into parts for speech for connectivity with regular course unit content learning. In addition, vocabulary overlapping in the three subjects was presented as a vocabulary for integrated learning, and additionally compared to textbook appendices and vocabulary indexes excluded from the corpus construction process. Also, compared to the list of Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject presented in the Korean Language (KSL) curriculum, the similarities and differences were identified and overlapping vocabulary was presented as a vocabulary that must be included in teaching and learning. This study selected Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject to help students with multicultural backgrounds improve their academic Korean language skills before entering high school to prevent poor learning and adapt early to school life. Furthermore, it is expected to be used in various ways as basic materials for Korean vocabulary education for high school students with multicultural backgrounds. keyword: Students with multicultural, Students with multicultural backgrounds, Korean vocabulary to adapt to the subject, Selection of vocabulary
