Education has the function of realizing the constitutional ideology, and today school education, which is a mainly organized and institutionalized educational institution, is the center of it. Therefore, educational activities in the school field and guaranteeing the basic rights of students become important tasks, and so are the educational activities in special schools. This study deals with topics related to guaranteeing the basic rights of students with disabilities, focusing on the current status of special schools in Korea and educational activities in special schools. In particular, by analyzing the educational activities of E School, which is a special school with intellectual disabilities, this study attempted to summarize the issues related to basic rights in the actual school field.
Given the nature of special education that serves the individual needs of students with disabilities, special schools must exist as one of a variety of educational tools. However, taking into account the global flow of inclusive education, special schools should also strive to pursue the value of social integration through expansion of exchanges with general schools. Special schools are characterized by the fact that students of all school ages, from kindergarten to high school courses, can receive education together in one space.
