In the unmanned vehicle industry such as autonomous vehicles and UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), which are rapidly growing worldwide, systems are evolving in a form in which engineering and IT fields are fused. In Korea, there is a constant need for UAVs in various fields, but a practical approach to technology development is not progressing due to the lack of original core technology. Since safety is largely considered in the aircraft field, the application of the internal combustion engine can be seen as a priority in the long term. Since diesel engines have a higher compression ratio than gasoline engines, they have excellent thermal efficiency and low rate of fuel consumption. In addition, it has the advantage of low influence on air quality and oxygen density due to its wide combustion air-fuel ratio. Military UAVs under development in Korea show a big difference in the limit of the elevation of the UAV, which is the most important factor compared to UAVs overseas. These performance characteristics are the greatest due to engine performance. Among the core technologies of diesel engines to be applied to UAVs, the turbocharger is an essential element for increasing flight altitude. In this study, the performance analysis of a 2-Stage turbocharged diesel engine in which two turbochargers of the same size are connected in series in a manner different from that of the turbocharger applied to the advanced model was conducted. It aims to achieve a maximum power of 200 PS or more on the ground and 150 PS or more at a medium-altitude 8000 m. As an experimental device, a virtual engine simulation was conducted using AVL's CRUISE-M software. As a result of the simulation, it was confirmed that the single turbo engine showed a maximum power of 144 PS at 4000 RPM and a maximum torque of 332 N·m at 2000 RPM. At this time, the fuel injection amount at the maximum torque was set to 59 Q[mg/hub]. This showed an error rate of about 2.1 % when compared with the target engine only with the maximum power, and about 2.4% when compared with only the maximum torque. In the 2-Stage turbo engine, the power performance was 201 PS above the ground when controlling the amount of fuel injection, and 152 PS at the medium altitude when entering the atmospheric conditions of the target altitude. This confirmed that it shows superior performance compared to the diesel engines for aircraft currently developed in Korea. In addition, it was confirmed that it showed relatively high compressor efficiency when operating in the minimum BSFC area under medium altitude conditions. The cylinder internal peak pressure of the 2-Stage turbo engine is 232 bar, which tends to be somewhat higher when considering the safety factor at the cylinder head in an aircraft engine. Accordingly, it was determined that additional analysis and verification of the engine design requirements according to the cylinder internal peak pressure were necessary. As a result of analyzing the exhaust gas emission of the 2-Stage turbo engine, it was confirmed that the overall trend was high. Accordingly, an additional experiment on the after-treatment system will be conducted in the future, and it will be used as data for preliminary research in future regulations. In addition, in future studies, plan to study the performance analysis in consideration of the engine dynamometer analysis of the target engine and the design and manufacture of the advanced simulation device to increase reliability, and considering the conditions of the turbocharger according to the shape and the influence of the fuel type.
