Cosmetics are products that give you more confidence than expressing beauty. Recently, interest and desire for beauty have been growing, and there is a culture that values appearance management in Korea. However, there are growing concerns about the use of cosmetics based on skin health, not just the application of cosmetics. As incorrect information and cosmetics are produced through various media such as SNS, and the cosmetics market is growing, concerns about raw materials and adverse effects on the environment are growing as side effects occur. The level of recognition of cosmetics ingredients is increasing, with consumers checking the ingredients before purchasing them due to safety problems such as harmful substances and allergy-causing substances in cosmetics. Therefore, this study conducted a survey from October 11 to 20, 2020 to study the recognition of cosmetic ingredients and purchasing behaviors. A total of 500 adult women in their 20s and 40s in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Daejeon, Jeonju, and Busan were surveyed, 350 of them filled out mobile questionnaires (Google questionnaire forms), and the remaining 150 were distributed directly. Among them, 464 copies were used for the final analysis, excluding 36 questionnaires that were not responding faithfully. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) WIN 25.0 program. The analysis techniques obtained frequency and percentage to examine the general characteristics of the study subjects. In addition, χ2(Chi-square) verification, One-way ANOVA (one-way ANOVA), and frequency analysis were conducted to find out about women's general understanding of cosmetics ingredients, their relationship to cosmetics components, purchasing, and their use status and satisfaction. To summarize the results of this study, First, 53.9% of women used cosmetics to protect their skin, followed by 17.0% of problem skin improvement, 13.4% of skin defects, 10.8% of changes in appearance, 4.3% of skin cleanliness, and 0.6%. It was also said that older women use cosmetics to protect their skin, while younger women in their 20s responded by using cosmetics to compensate for skin defects and even doing point makeup. Interest in cosmetics was higher for women in service/self-employment than for women in other professions. Information on cosmetics was found to be obtained from portal sites with 48.5 percent, purchasing the most on the Internet with less than 50,000 won per time, and 53 percent of women in their 20s purchased from H&B stores. Second, as a result of analyzing the understanding of cosmetics ingredients of the study subjects, women were more interested in cosmetics ingredients at 3.55, while women in their 30s or older and women in professional jobs were more interested in cosmetics ingredients than women who were not. Concerns about cosmetics ingredients were also high at 3.72 percent, and 81.6 percent of women knew that cosmetics were marked with their best ingredients in cosmetics containers and packaging. The older women are, the more professional women are, the higher the perception that cosmetics ingredients affect their purchases. The main media that raised awareness of the ingredients of cosmetics said they learned the most from newspaper news articles. In order to check the harmful ingredients when purchasing cosmetics, they found that less than 10% of the ingredients were understood, that they did not know the ingredients or harmful ingredients that were not suitable for the skin, and that they did not check due to distrust of the ingredients. As above, the level of recognition was 81.6% higher in indicating the best ingredients of cosmetics, but as a result of understanding less than 10% of harmful ingredients, the display should be improved first by separating harmful ingredients. Third, as a result of analyzing the relationship between cosmetics ingredients and purchases of the study subjects, 76.3% of housewives purchased cosmetics with more consideration for the safety of the ingredients. The reason was 43.8% for hypoallergenic products, 28.0% for reliability, 9.9% for brand reliability, and 6.8% for problematic effectiveness. In addition, 45.3% of the tendency to repurchase after using basic cosmetics shows that purchasing products that have been used continuously is the most common. Fourth, according to an analysis of the current state of cosmetics use and satisfaction of the subjects, the overall average out of five points was 3.89 and women were highly satisfied with the existing cosmetics. According to the results of the survey on satisfaction after using cosmetics, 40.7% of women were satisfied with no skin irritation, followed by 19.6%, while the reason for women who were dissatisfied with the lack of efficacy and effectiveness was 53.2% and 24.8% due to the high price. According to a survey of whether women have experienced side effects due to cosmetics, 54.7 percent of women have experienced side effects, more than 45.3 percent of women who have not. As a result of examining women's perception of the cause of side effects, 53.1% of women recognized that cosmetics ingredients were stimulated as the cause of side effects caused by cosmetics, followed by 43.3% because they did not fit the skin type. Therefore, it can be seen that cosmetics ingredients are the biggest cause of side effects caused by cosmetics. The symptoms of side effects were said to have been most frequently experienced by stinging and burning skin, followed by redness and itching. After experiencing side effects from cosmetics, the results showed that they no longer used cosmetics, left them alone or discarded them, and refunded them to the vendor. However, none of the women reported to the Consumer Counseling Center or the Consumer Protection Agency. Most women did not treat side effects from cosmetics, but purchased and used natural healing and then other products, indicating that the majority of women simply neglected side effects from cosmetics use. As such, this study shows that women are highly interested in cosmetics, so there is also a high level of suspicion or concern about the safety of cosmetics ingredients. It is hoped that safety of cosmetics ingredients will be established, so that women can express themselves beautifully, and furthermore, it can contribute to the development of the cosmetics industry by actively consuming cosmetics and increasing satisfaction after using cosmetics. Changes in the labeling of cosmetics' best ingredients should be made so that consumers can judge and choose their own best ingredients. As a result, cosmetics industry and marketing changes are expected to continue.
