The purpose of this study was to investigate the consumers' awareness of cosmetic ingredients and how promotion and education about the ingredients should be done, and was to provide basic information about marketing strategy establishment for the cosmetics industry by examining consumer behavior based upon the gender, age differences. The result of the study can be summarized as follows: First, only 24.6% of consumers were recognizing about Full Ingredient Labeling System of Cosmetic. It turned out that many consumers did not check the ingredients when purchasing cosmetics even they were concerned about the ingredients. Moreover, 56.2% of consumers did not examine the ingredients because they were not well-informed. Also, consumers felt the need for information and education regarding cosmetic ingredients, and especially they showed recognition highly about harmful ingredients(M = 4.25). Second, both men and women considered experience of use and evaluation heavily when purchasing cosmetics. While most men considered the brand recognition, most women considered safety, respectively. In addition, women appeared to obtain information through various methods compared to men, showing gender differences. While most men tend to get information through one-way information source like TV, most women tend to use double-way information source like friends, family, and other acquaintances. For men, the usage of whitening cosmetics(39.5%) was higher than that of anti wrinkle cosmetics(35.8%) against expectation that anti-wrinkle cosmetic usage would be higher due to their worries about wrinkles. There were also differences between men and women regarding reasons for sunscreen use. Most men tend to use sunscreens to prevent blackening, and most women use them to prevent pigmentation. Third, when purchasing cosmetics, the lower the age, the more experiences of use and evaluation were considered, and the higher age groups, the more safety was considered.
