This study aims to identify the mediating effect of dysfunctional career thinking in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and career indecision of college students. For this purpose, the data were collected by conducting an online survey on students at four-year colleges in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Gyeongsang-do. The data was collected from the 308 students who participated this online survey. Correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 22.0 program. The results of the study are as follows: First, socially prescribed perfectionism showed a significant positive correlation with dysfunctional career thinking and career indecision. These results suggest that the more socially prescribed perfectionism tends to be, the higher dysfunctional career thinking and the higher career indecision. In addition, dysfunctional career thinking showed a significant positive correlation with career indecision. This means that the more dysfunctional career thinking, the higher the career indecision. Second, dysfunctional career thinking was found to play a full mediating role in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and career indecision. These results suggest that college students with socially prescribed perfectionism are more likely to have career indecision, which is understood to be due to dysfunctional career thinking. The results of this study show that in order to help college students with high socially prescribed perfectionism make career decisions, they should intervene in changes in maladaptive cognition such as irrational expectations and dysfunctional beliefs related to career.
