The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a difference between male and female students in the model to verify the mediating effect of anxiety and the moderating effect of resilience in the effect of smartphone addiction on suicidal ideation of college students. From August 30 to September 30, 2020, male and female college students in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gyeongsangbuk-do were surveyed, and data from 379 people were used for the final analysis. For the collected data, descriptive statistical analysis, ANOVA, independent sample t-test, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and two-way variance analysis were performed using SPSS Ver. 21.0. The main findings and implications of this study are as follows. First, Smartphone addiction of college students was found to have a positive effect on suicidal ideation. This means that the higher the level of smartphone addiction among college students, the higher their suicidal ideation. Second, it was found that anxiety had a positive effect on the suicidal ideation of college students. This means that the higher the anxiety of college students, the higher their suicidal ideation. Third, in the relationship between smartphone addiction and suicidal ideation, the mediating effect of anxiety was found to have a completely mediating effect for both male and female college students. Fourth, it was found that resilience had a negative effect on suicidal ideation in male college students. In the case of male students, the higher their resilience, the lower their suicidal ideation were found, but statistical significance was not secured for female students. In the relationship between smartphone addiction and suicidal ideation, resilience was found to have negative moderating functions in both male and female college students. The implications for this study are as follows. First, the fact that smartphone addiction directly and indirectly affects college students' suicidal ideation suggests that college authorities, local communities, and the state should approach college students' smartphone addiction and suicide in an integrated way. Second, the resilience of resilience, which acts as a protective factor to reduce suicidal thoughts of college students, was confirmed. Second, it confirmed the role of resilience as a protective factor that reduces suicidal ideation of college students. This proved the necessity of establishing a plan to improve the resilience of college students in the home, college authorities, and community. Third, it is necessary to prevent smartphone addiction from occurring and to reduce and prevent anxiety by providing education in advance so that college students can use smartphones usefully. Fourth, it could be used as basic data for establishing an anxiety reduction plan to reduce the risk of suicide among college students. Fifth, it suggests that a differentiated approach between male and female students is necessary when implementing anxiety overcoming training or suicide prevention education for college students. Based on these findings and discussions, I would like to make suggestions for further research.
