The purpose of this study was to learn about heritage language education in America by examining the experiences of adults who have previously attended Korean language schools in America. The method of this study was based on Clandinin and Connelly's narrative exploration, which was used to examine the significance of the Korean language learning experience as a heritage language experience in retrospect to the learners’ reflection. Understanding implications on how Korean language learning has affected learners can help educators to improve and develop Korean as a heritage language learning program. This research focused on the experiences of five second-generation Korean-American adults who have attended the Korean Language School in America. Semi-structured interviews, short essays, interviewer notes and research records, emails, and other modes of text were utilized. The collected texts were explored and analyzed in terms of time, place, and three-dimensional space with respect to social perspectives to produce narrative results showing either positivity or negativity. The final analyzed text was structured with the implied meanings and metaphorical expressions, "the basis of learning and growth", "bridge of family connections", "Korean language education over Hangul", "from rejection to acceptance of Korean language", and "Korean as a foreign language."Furthermore, relevant results were found by the expansion and interpretation of the personal, social, and practical dimensions. Results showed that bilingualism can either become a valuable resource or a phenomenon that leads to conflict. It was confirmed that personal, social, and practical situations led to either harmonious relationships with acceptance or conflict with the rejection of the use of the Korean language between Koreans and within the Korean community. This negative tendency led to the reluctance and avoidance of learning and using the Korean language. It is just as if an individual has two tickets that symbolize their ability to speak two languages with them and provide access to two different doors, which sometimes they know right away which ticket they need, but also causes them to struggle and become overwhelmed at times due to being lost with which ticket to use. This shows that Korean language education requires a careful approach based on a deep understanding of Korean-American learners and how critical the role of proper Korean language education is. The data obtained from this research can provide essential information to Korean language institute administrators and instructors to develop effective learning programs for heritage language learners.
