This study examined AI anchors, recently appearing in news broadcasting, and conducted a comparative analysis through an experiment on the viewers’ evaluation of human and AI anchors. Clips where human and AI anchors deliver the same news script each were made as stimuli. Background images behind the anchor and computer graphics were controlled in the same quality in both set of clips. Respondents answered questions after being exposed to news clips with durations of 40 and 90 seconds. They were not informed whether the anchors were human or AI. Respondents evaluated presentation, news credibility, and inspiration of viewer loyalty regarding the anchor. Results showed that viewers clearly distinguished between the human and AI anchor. It implies that they still regard AI anchors as awkward and unnatural. Viewers regarded human anchors as being more presentable, credible, and inspiring increased viewer loyalty than AI anchors. However, for clips with a duration of 40 seconds, there was no statistically significant difference. Only respondents who viewed clips with a duration of 90 seconds regarded the human anchor's presentation as better than their counterpart’s. Viewers who watch news broadcasting for more than five days a week regarded presentation, credibility, and viewer loyalty inspiration of human anchors as better than those of their counterpart. Viewers who watch news for less than four days did not show statistically significant difference in evaluating the three criteria for two kinds of anchors. While respondents who are employed had more favorable evaluation of human anchors in three criteria, respondents who are unemployed did not show statistically significant difference between evaluating two kinds of anchors.
