Concerns regarding the influence of fossil fuel use and plastic pollution on environmental issues have grown recently. As a result, the global need for environmentally friendly energy and material development is growing. Researchers are attempting to utilise biomass as a sustainable material. Engineers and scientists have been particularly interested in processing cellulose constructed out of linear glucose chains. One of the most plentiful biorenewable materials is cellulose, and it is being researched as a biodegradable, environmentally friendly material and energy source that can replace petroleum and other chemicals. It is widely used in commercial applications such as the paper, membrane, polymer, and paint industries. However, water and organic solvents are incompatible with the natural renewable polymer, owing to its stiff backbone and dense chain packing caused by numerous intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Organic solvents have a high vapor pressure, which causes problems for the experimenter's health. While research on cellulose extraction solvents continues, ionic liquids have become as a substitute for organic solvents due to their low vapor pressure, melting point less than 100, and non-flammable features. Deep eutectic solvents, also called process-based ionic liquids, have shown great application potential in the analytical field due to their unique physical and chemical properties, but deep eutectic solvent studies on extraction and separation applications are still insufficient.
In this paper, when treating cellulose using ionic liquid and deep eutectic solvent as an extraction solvent to replace organic solvents, the difference in physical properties after treatment is studied through Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
