Here, we designed a ROS- and GSH-responsive diselenide polymer dot-based drug delivery system and electrochemical sensor capable of cancer diagnosis and treatment. First, diselenide bonds cross-linked PD-TPP allowed PTX to be stably loaded, and in the presence of H2O2 and GSH, the PTX was released from the matrices due to controlled cleavage of the diselenide bond. Furthermore, conjugated TPP may potentially enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the anticancer drugs and minimize the side effects, owing to its specific targeting to the mitochondria of cancer cells. Moreover, we invented a real-time electrochemical sensor based on diselenide polymer dot nanoparticles coated on a substrate, proficient in selectively detecting tumors. Due to the high amount of ROS in cancer conditions, the surface morphology was altered, cleaving the diselenide bonds (-Se-Se-) and forming Se-OH/-Se-OOH, which simultaneously affected the electrical resistance of the sensor. In the end, the developed drug delivery and sensor could become a breakthrough for biomedical applications, notably for cancer detection and medication.
