Abstract
Research on Achieving the Correct Posture of Adolescents through Self-Posture Correction
This research aims to provide foundational resources in the self-care area for adolescents and adults by establishing the effects of a self-posture correction program by performing the program to recover unbalanced body shapes and wrong postures of adolescents receiving a voucher service for self-posture correction program at Chungnam District Community Service. The research performed a self-posture correction program for fixing postures to sixteen adolescents who are in the ages from ten to nineteen. The program was performed for sixty minutes, twice a week, for five days. The program involved both theoretical and practical curriculum. The adolescents were studied to observe how much of the program was implemented in their daily lives by making them fill out a daily checklist. The research performed a balance test for the coronal plane and a posture test for the sagittal plane using exbody test equipment. Postures from daily life were measured by a daily checklist. The checklist, which is a survey that asks questions about five factors and scores the participants on thirty items, was used for five weeks to measure the changes of the participants’ postures. The changes that occurred depending on filling out the checklist and not filling out the checklist was measured by performing a full body type test. First, a significant change in ankles and knees were seen in comparing the coronal planes of before and after the self-posture correction(p<0.05). However, no significant changes were seen in shoulders, pelvic disproportion, and facial asymmetry. Second, the changes of before and after the self-posture correction program showed statistically significant differences in the sagittal postures of neck, inclination of pelvis, knee flexion angle, and loss of height(p<0.05). Third, the changes in daily checklists from before and after the self-posture correction program showed statistically significant differences in standing posture, walking posture, and sedentary posture(p<0.05). However, there were no statistically significant differences in resting posture and sleeping posture. Fourth, there was a statistically significant difference in the changes of before and after the self-posture correction program between the full body shape indexes of the group that filled out the daily checklist and the group that did not(P<0.05). In conclusion, to improve the disproportions of body shapes in adolescents, it is recommended to perform a self-posture correction program, which helps to correct postures in daily life by making daily postures an exercise. This can be done by continuously examining the postures of adolescents and educating them on correcting their bad habits related to posture and on what the correct postures are.
