Quantum dots (QDs), one kind of nanocrystals have received tremendous attention in the field of nano-patterning due to their band gap tunability by varying QDs size. However assembling and locating QDs with desirable optical properties on the same solid surfaces and interfaces remains a significant challenge. Therefore, postsynthetically modification of QDs has much advantages compared to synthesis QDs respectively. Recently, it has been shown that changes in both emission wavelength and intensity can be controlled by adjusting laser power and irradiation time. The changes in both emission wavelength and intensity is attributed to the size reduction caused by photo-oxidation process and several factors such as decrease of surface trap induce by point and line defects. In this study, CdSe QDs were irradiated by 405 nm CW laser. Patterns, which have different optical characteristics were carved on the CdSe thin film by adjusting irradiation power and time. In order to investigate the optical and structural properties of QDs in laser process, hyperspectral imaging and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) measurements were performed. The carrier dynamics of QDs was investigated using the time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) measurement. As a result, blue-shift in emission wavelength from 610 to 575 nm was observed. In addition, it was observed that PL intensity was enhanced 3 times compared to Ref. after laser irradiation. As a result of TEM measurement, average area of CdSe was decreased from 26.092 to 18.176 nm2, and lattice constant was decreased from 3.52 to 3.36 Å. Moreover, average aspect ratio was decreased from 1.592 to 1.358, indicate that shape of QDs became isotropic. Furthermore, shortening in PL decay time was confirmed. PL decay curve was fitted by bi-exponential function with different τ1 and τ2 values. As result of fitting, decrease in τ1 and τ2 were observed due to passivation of trap emission state on the surface of CdSe.
