The rheological analysis of polymer nanocomposites is a useful method for inferring the internal structure of the material and filler-matrix interactions, filler-filler interactions. The linear viscoelastic properties from Small-amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS) tests suggest a well-established means of investigating the dispersion state of particles in nanocomposites owing to their fast speed and convenience. The dispersity of nanoparticles in polymer nanocomposites significantly affects the thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of final fabrications. In this study, we aim to quantify the dispersity of nanoparticles in polymer nanocomposites and ceramic nanoparticles/acrylate nanocomposites. As the first step for this, various amounts of graphene nanoparticles were incorporated into Polypropylene and Polylactic acid base resins via melt compounding. They were injection-molded to fabricate disc-type specimens for characterizing the rheological properties. The storage (G′) and loss (G″) modulus of them were examined to plot the G′-G″ slopes to evaluate the dispersity of the nanoparticles in the matrix. The increase in elasticity of the material concerning matrix resin type and nanoparticle composition was investigated through Van Gurp-Palmen’s analysis. We develop an interpenetrating network of silane-functionalized nanocomposites to enhance particle dispersity and interfacial bonding strength in nanocomposites. We qualitatively measured the improved particle dispersion in nanocomposites by performing rheological characterization and proposing a simple particle dispersion index from the viscoelastic response. As a result of comparing the yield stresses and the elastic modulus of the nanocomposites during photo-polymerization, we identify that interphase regions considerably affect the interfacial bonding and mechanical strengths. The prediction of the elastic modulus of the nanocomposite by the Mori-Tanaka micromechanics model agrees well with the experimental data, proving the existence of an excellent interpenetrating network between the nanoparticles and the matrix. A comparative study depending on pH conditions of anode slurry with poly(acrylic acid), and a mixture of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a binder has been performed aiming at the control of both structural transition and rheological properties in the anode slurry manufacturing process. Adsorption and zeta potential measurements expose that the surface chemistry of the binder affects the rheological properties of the slurries. In the slurry using PAA as a binder, the polymer chains swell as the degree of ionization increases, leading to an increase in viscosity and modulus. When CMC and SBR were used, the viscosity and modulus were lower as the pH increased. The difference in rheological properties due to the pH effect results in a difference in the microstructure of the electrode sheets. We investigated the dispersion state and microstructure through rheological characterization of composites containing nanoparticles, such as polymer nanocomposites, dense suspension, and battery slurry.
