Problems and Alternatives to the Basic Achievement Promotion Programs in Elementary School: An Exploration Based on Waldorf Arts Education원문보기

This study stems from the awareness of what is the true educational method to solve the problem of lowering basic academic ability in elementary school students, which has become more serious in the recent pandemic. As the necessity of guaranteeing basic academic ability became publicly debated, programs for this purpose were introduced into elementary school education, but despite steady efforts, real education in consideration of the nature and growth of children has not been implemented in the field. Therefore, this study explores the educational values and meanings of children's education principles and methods of Steiner's Waldorf School, which emphasizes that education should be an art, and explores alternative possibilities for the correct direction of instruction for improving basic academic ability in elementary schools. We would like to clarify Chapter II examines the conceptual issues of basic academic ability and the current status of policy implementation, and reveals the limitations that elementary school's basic education promotion programs must overcome. The concept of basic academic ability has two discourses: ‘capacity for human growth as a whole’ and ‘functional ability for learning’. This is being used in a mixture of policies and programs to ensure basic academic ability. The current education policy seeks to promote both aspects, but the actual operation process seems to focus a little more on the latter, the functional learning ability enhancement. Therefore, it is necessary to pursue holistic growth and seek a direction that is not biased toward either side. Currently, in the school field, students are selected through basic academic ability diagnosis and learning correction instruction is in progress. Helping learning (Do Dream School), collegiate assistant instructors and tutoring, and elementary and lower grade Korean literacy education support programs have positive effects on educationally recovering students' learning and emotional deficits. However, there are still problems such as lack of learning materials, lack of instructional time, desolate learning process, insincere attitude, and lack of artistry. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a basic academic ability improvement program that supplements these limitations and reflects the educational philosophical understanding of children's nature. Chapter Ⅲ deals with the educational principles and methods of Waldorf School's children's education based on Steiner's Anthroposophy to explore alternatives. We look at the 'what' of the educational arts pursued by the Waldorf School, the 'why', and the 'how' of the educational arts in school classes. . First, the Waldorf School emphasizes that education and teaching must be true art. Education in elementary school should be guided in a way that satisfies emotions without compromising artistry, in conformity with human nature. Art should be the basis of all subject areas, which can foster children's imagination and rich emotions. Steiner divided human developmental stages into seven-year cycles, and among them, he suggests writing, reading, arithmetic, and art education methods appropriate for the developmental stages of children aged 7-14. Since this period is important for emotional and emotional development, school classes must incorporate artistic elements to develop them. Specifically, if you look at the teaching method, writing and reading education begin first and acquiring cursive and then teaching printing. We need to draw concepts from shapes and sounds, and let children feel what they learn with their hearts, not with their heads. Arithmetic education pays attention to the fact that there is something out of the reality that is inherent in the number rather than the form. You have to learn in a way that is directed from the whole to the individual, to feel life for yourself, and to turn to the world. Art education is not simply art education as a subject of music, art, and physical education, but seeks an art method that constitutes the background in all subjects. Also, art has two streams: plastic-sculptural and musical-poetic. Through this, art classes that are lively and pursue beauty should be taught. Chapter Ⅳ explores the direction to be pursued in elementary education based on Waldorf art education theory and alternatives to improve basic academic ability. The previous chapter examined the concept of basic education and actual conditions and dealt with philosophical considerations to overcome them. By organically connecting with these discussions, we explore the direction teachers and education should take. First, it is necessary to understand the 'what' of the educational arts pursued by Waldorf School and recognize the importance of the art teacher's role in primary education. Elementary school teachers have a great responsibility as a guide for children to grow into living human beings. Teachers should always think about what essential education for children is appropriate for the developmental stage of children. Next, it is necessary to reflect on the 'why' of children's education and to seek an essential understanding of primary education and children. Finally, from the ‘how’ of education, it is necessary to explore an integrated practice case for the promotion of basic academic ability. This is because education should be an art, and an integrated method that reflects the fundamental interests and needs of human beings is in line with the nature of children. In summary, efforts are being made at the national and social levels to overcome serious social problems such as a decline in basic academic ability and a decrease in students' interest in learning. However, it does not show a noticeable effect, and there are also problems. Therefore, from the essential point of view of education, Steiner's Waldorf School’s educational principles and deep understanding of children were examined as an alternative to solving this problem. Steiner's teaching methods can be applied in various ways, from writing and reading education to counting and art education by referring to the case of Waldorf School's teacher class. It is necessary to accumulate practical case studies on teachers' teaching methods by deeply exploring how basic education is conducted. For this, teachers should always think, explore children, and engage in educational activities with a sincere heart.
