This study compared and analyzed the grammar activities of Korean intermediate textbooks published in Korea and China, identified the commonalities and differences between the two countries' textbooks, and analyzed the problems in the currently published textbooks. In addition, a survey was conducted on Chinese Korean learners in the intermediate and advanced stages to analyze their perceptions of grammar activities, and a plan to develop grammar activities for Chinese Korean learners in the intermediate stage was presented.
Chapter 1 examines the purpose of the study, discussions on grammar activities, analysis of Korean textbooks, and discussions on the development of Korean textbooks through related previous studies, and presents research subjects and research methods.
In Chapter 2, the classification of grammatical activity types was described to establish the criteria for analysis, and the analysis criteria of grammatical activity were examined. The analysis criteria for grammar activities were set whether grammar activities were diverse, examples were presented, learners' interests were considered, and whether activities helped improve communication skills.
Chapter 3 analyzed the grammar activities of Korean language textbooks in both Korea and China based on the types of grammar activities presented in Chapter 2 and the analysis criteria of grammar activities. The common feature of textbooks between Korea and China is that there are many types of grammar activities, but there is a tendency to focus on several types. The difference was shown in the following four aspects. First, textbooks published in Korea present a balanced number of grammar activities for each unit, but Chinese textbooks have a relatively large number of grammar activities for each unit and are disproportionate. Second, Korean textbooks use a lot of visual materials such as pictures and tables, while Chinese textbooks show little visual materials. Third, Korean textbooks often linked grammar activities to speaking activities, while Chinese textbooks often linked to writing activities. Fourth, in Korean textbooks for example in grammar activities, all activities presented examples, but in Chinese textbooks, many grammar activities do not have examples.
In Chapter 4, a survey was conducted on the perception of grammar activities for Chinese Korean learners in the intermediate and advanced stages. As a result of the survey analysis, first, Chinese Korean learners prefer controlled practice to meaningful practice in each grammar activity. This seems to be because Chinese Korean learners are not only less aware of the need for constant communication, but also recognize that practice is more important than the use of grammar. Second, satisfaction with grammar activities using visual data was high. Third, most learners prefer to present 1 to 4 grammar activities in one unit. Fourth, most Korean learners preferred to show examples in grammar activities and wanted to present dialogue sentences rather than narrative forms. Fifth, most learners prefer to present a combination of grammar presentation and grammar activities and to present various types of grammar activities. I also think that grammar activities are effective in linking them with speaking and writing activities.
Chapter 5 presents the principles of developing Korean grammar activities for Chinese intermediate Korean learners by synthesizing the analysis results of textbooks in Chapter 3 and the survey results in Chapter 4. In addition, according to the development principle of this grammar activity, the direction of development of intermediate-level grammar activity was suggested, and finally, one intermediate grammar was selected as an example of grammar activity.
This study analyzed the grammar activities of Korean and Chinese intermediate textbooks to reveal the commonalities and differences of Korean textbooks in both countries, and presented a plan to develop intermediate-level grammar activities by analyzing the results of a survey on grammar activities. I think that these research results can be used as basic data for the composition of grammar activities and development of grammar activities when compiling integrated textbooks for Chinese Korean learners in the future.
