This study, which is a qualitative case study, was started out of interest in people with high-functioning autism whose intellectual level is in the normal range, which comes from a mixture of various problems. In this study, the researcher wanted to deeply understand the experience and meaning of art therapy for a high-functioning autistic female adult with psychiatric comorbidities, and to explore the possibility of art therapy as a therapeutic alternative, two research questions were set: what did a high-functioning autistic female adult with psychiatric comorbidities experience through art therapy?” and “what is the meaning of art therapy for a high-functioning autistic female adult with psychiatric comorbidities?” The research participant was a 28-year-old female who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, unspecified depressive disorder, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The research subject participated in an art therapy program for a total of 23 sessions, 1-2 times a week, 90 minutes per session, and participated in two follow-up researches 3 months and 8 months after the end of the art therapy. For the collected data, the constant comparison method was used as the basic analytical framework, and the study results are as follows: First, the nine major themes derived from the participant's art therapy experiences were as follows: , , , and , , , , , . Second, 6 meaning units were derived from the meaning of art therapy for the research participant: , , , , , . The research participant, a high-functioning autistic female adult with psychiatric comorbidities, was able to receive insight-oriented art therapy, and differentiated art therapy interventions had a positive effect on her psychological recovery and growth. The participant expressed the things that were difficult to express in language as images, faced her own internal conflicts through symbolized images and formations, and sought inner direction and balance. In the process, the participant discovered positive internal resources such as a sense of accomplishment and experienced the rise of consciousness, and the internal resources and psychological balance established through art therapy were maintained as her psychological foundations even after the end of art therapy. This study was a qualitative case study dealing with an individual's special situation, examining the mental change process of the participant in a more in-depth way within the personal life and internal and external contexts. Currently, the importance of intervention programs related to autism spectrum disorder with psychiatric comorbidities is suggested at home and abroad, but actual researches are lacking. This study is meaningful in that it comprehensively understood the background of related diseases through vivid and abundant data, suggesting the possibility of art therapy as a therapeutic alternative through the positive results derived from differentiated art therapy interventions for a high-functioning autistic female adult with psychiatric comorbidities.
