The dryer consumes a lot of energy to remove moisture from the dry matter. A dryer has been widely used as a method of using an electric heater since a long time ago, and the cost increases due to high energy consumption. Therefore, the heat pump type dryer, which can save about 80% or more of energy compared to the electric heater type, is very helpful in reducing costs. In particular, as a heat pump type heat source, the geothermal heat source has the advantage of maintaining almost constant temperature throughout the year. Geothermal systems have been used in buildings for a long time. In fact, in public institutions, solar and geothermal sources account for about 96.6% of the amount invested in new and renewable energy facilities. On the other hand, it is difficult to find examples of applying a geothermal heat pump system to dryers that use a lot of energy, both at home and abroad. This is because the initial investment cost is high due to the installation of a geothermal heat exchanger to use a geothermal heat source. In addition, the companies that deal with agricultural products dryers are small, and companies try to provide products that are low-cost and simple to install to meet the needs of consumers. Therefore, it is difficult to find a product that uses a geothermal heat pump system, which has a high initial cost and is relatively difficult to install. However, it is the application of a geothermal heat pump system is meaningful if the energy saving effect is good depending on the characteristics of the dryer that consumes a lot of energy and the reduction of greenhouse gas by using a high-efficiency product is considered. Therefore, it is necessary to check whether the geothermal heat pump agricultural product dryer is economical in the long term. Therefore, in this study, an appropriate geothermal heat exchanger was designed according to the drying capacity using the GLD program, and a drying experiment was conducted by applying it to a small capacity geothermal heat pump dryer. And in order to know the proper boring length of the geothermal heat exchanger of the medium and large scale geothermal heat pump system, TRNSYS simulation modeled and performed the experimental results. In addition, we simulated an appropriate boring length for a geothermal heat exchanger of a medium or larger scale. And an economically advantageous method was proposed through the economic analysis of the small capacity (1 HP) and large capacity (20 HP) hot air dryer and the existing electric heater hot air dryer. The results are summarized as follows.
1. 1 HP geothermal heat pump hot air dryer cycle analysis result, when the set temperature of the dryer is 55℃ and 20% of air with an outdoor temperature of 26℃ is mixed, the air inside the drying room is 49.74℃, the COPc of the air is 1.74, and the COPh is 2.74. Although it was set to be about 5℃ higher than the set temperature for the drying test, it is judged that the set temperature for drying can be adjusted when the mixing of outside air is adjusted in actual drying.
2. Assuming that 50 kg of dried seaweed is dried once a day and once every two days for 20 years, the GLD simulation results show that the length of the borehole is 92.2 m and the length of the geothermal heat exchanger is 76.9 m, respectively. Compared to when drying was first started, the underground temperature after 20 years will drop by about 2°C when dried once a day and by about 1°C when dried twice a day. Since the underground heat exchanger is constructed based on the standard of 50 m, 100 m, and 150 m, it was judged that it is appropriate to design 50 m and 100 m in the drying test according to the simulation results.
3. In the drying experiment, when the underground heat exchanger length was 50 m, the drying time was about 14 hours, and when the length was 100 m, the drying time was about 13 hours. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the temperature difference of the circulating water in the geothermal heat exchanger was 1.55°C when the drilling length was 50 m and 2.09°C when the drilling length was 100 m, which was about 0.5°C. The longer the underground heat exchanger, the greater the temperature difference of the circulating water and the greater the heat capacity, so it is judged that the drying time will be faster.
4. As a result of the drying test, the average TEWT and TLWT were 17.27℃ and 15.72℃ for 50 m of drilling length, and 17.41℃ and 15.32℃ for 100 m of drilling length. The temperature difference before and after the start of drying was not significantly different. After about 5 hours of drying time, the TEWT and TLWT temperatures began to rise and fall repeatedly, and the temperature difference gradually decreased. It is judged that the on/off operation of the geothermal heat pump has proceeded because a significant amount of moisture in the dried sample was removed and the drying load was greatly reduced.
5. When the drying test results were modeled with TRNSYS simulation and the TEWT results were confirmed, the error was 0.12°C and there was no significant difference at 17.54°C compared to the 17.42°C measured in the experiment. Therefore, it was judged that there would be no large error when simulating the drying capacity of medium-scale or larger based on TRNSYS modeling.
6. As a result of simulating the length of the geothermal heat exchanger for a dry mass of mesoscale or larger, the boring length was 300 m when the dry mass was 300 kg, the boring length was 450 m when the dry mass was 500 kg, and the boring length was 750 m when the dry mass was 1,000 kg. The COP increased with the increase in the perforation length, but it was confirmed that the change in COP did not differ significantly by about 1% above a certain perforation length, and this was selected as the appropriate perforation length. As the dry mass increases, the drilling length becomes longer, but it is thought that the construction cost can be reduced as the increase rate of the boring length decreases. In particular, it was judged that it would be economically advantageous to apply a geothermal heat pump system to a large-capacity dryer.
7. As a result of applying the annual equal pay method of the electric heater hot air dryer and the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer with a capacity of 1 HP , the monthly repayment cost is that the electric heater is 79,766 won and the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer is 117,909 won. The the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer was 38,143 won(about 47.8%) more expensive. The monthly repayment cost of a geothermal heat pump hot air dryer is 94,815 won when receiving a subsidy for the renewable energy housing support project. Compared to the case without subsidy, 23,094 won (about 19.6%) decreased, and 15,049 won (about 18.9%) higher than that of the electric heater hot air dryer. It is judged that the electric heater dryer is economically more advantageous than the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer for the small capacity dryer of 1 HP.
8. As a result of applying the annual equal pay method of an electric heater hot air dryer with a capacity of 20 HP and a geothermal heat pump hot air dryer, the monthly repayment cost is 921,614 won for an electric heater hot air dryer. Compared to the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer 596,114 won, the electric heater hot air dryer showed 325,500 won (about 54.6%) more. The monthly repayment cost is 480,711 won when receiving a subsidy for a new and renewable energy housing support project for the installation of a geothermal heat exchanger for a geothermal heat pump hot air dryer. It was 115,403 won (about 19.4%) less than when no subsidy was received, and 440,903 won (about 47.8%) less than the electric heater hot air dryer. The 20 HP large-capacity dryer was found to be economically more advantageous to the geothermal heat pump hot air dryer compared to the electric heater hot air dryer.
