In 2020, virtual spaces triggered by non-face-to-face exchanges caused by infectious diseases are gradually being linked to reality, complementing each other, and developing into a virtual fusion world. The metaverse industry, which will lead digital super innovation, one of the five representative tasks of the Korean New Deal 2.0, is expected to continue to change and develop until 2030 with the development of realistic technology. As such, various possibilities for the development of non-face-to-face services and virtual space are being suggested, but on the other hand, the enjoyment of physical activities and the desire for liveness are also increasing. This phenomenon is also found in the dance participation market, which has grown rapidly over the past few years. Since 2003, the watching rate of the dance performance market has always been the lowest among the performing arts genres, while the number of people participating in dance is steadily increasing, especially expanding to the art genre. In addition, today, dance participation is transforming into a serious leisure person who acquires expertise beyond self-purpose leisure activities or produces new values in the dance ecosystem by combining them with their own experiences and careers. However, despite the quantitative and qualitative growth of the dance participation market, there are few studies that view the value of the participation market from an industrial perspective or within the dance ecosystem. Therefore, this study intends to propose a metaverse dance platform for the convergence dance ecosystem expanded to a virtual space, and the reasons are as follows. First, a network of dance participants can be formed, and second, various creative and economic activities can be carried out by expanding the creative capabilities of serious leisure into virtual spaces, and third, the participation market and the performance market can be connected through the metaverse platform to directly exchange creators and art can also be produced. Through this technology convergence, it is expected that new actors in the traditional dance ecosystem will emerge and create new values through the network between them, ultimately expanding and developing the dance ecosystem. In this study, the metaverse dance platform is based on 'participation', 'community', and 'creation', and it is intended to use this to fuse reality and virtual, and to derive a new convergence dance ecosystem in which the performance market and the participation market are connected. Accordingly, the following research questions were established.
Research Question 1: How is the dance ecosystem where reality and virtual are fused and the performance market and the participation market are connected? Research Question 2: What is the relationship between the characteristics of the metaverse dance platform and the intention of participants to use it?
To solve the above research problems, this study conducted Study 1 on the convergence dance ecosystem model using metaverse and Study 2 on the intention to use the dance platform using metaverse. First of all, in Study 1, based on Basole & Rouse (2008)'s service value network and Kwon et al. (2014)'s culture and arts industry service value network applying it to the culture and arts industry, the convergence dance ecosystem (To-Be) using the existing dance ecosystem (As-Is) and metaverse was derived. In order to verify each model, in-depth interviews were conducted with 7 dance industry and academic experts and 2 metaverse industry experts. As a result of the analysis, new stakeholders were included in the stages of creation, planning/production, distribution, consumption, and service support. In the creative stage, existing choreographers and dancers were the source of creation for offline performances, while a value flow was added to produce dance expressions and contents through the virtual world. In addition, content IP has been added to license copyright in addition to existing performance rights. In the planning/production stage, dance-related content producers were newly included, and in the distribution stage, a metaverse platform for virtual dance activities appeared. In the consumption stage, it is expected that visitors from the performance industry and dance participants in the participating market will be integrated through virtual spaces linked to reality to form a community for creation, information production, and social interaction. Finally, in the service support stage, it was expected that software companies, hardware companies, and asset exchanges to issue and transact NFT required to build a virtual world platform would be added. In addition, with the emergence of virtual and reality convergence performances, the connection was added as existing production companies also supported the metaverse platform. In summary, as the virtual dance platform was added to the dance ecosystem in the performance industry, new value actors for the production of digital dance creations and contents were introduced. In particular, it is expected that the ones who participate in dance as a serious leisure will be an important subject of value creation in the convergence dance ecosystem as their role expands to active participants who produce creation and information on the metaverse platform. In Study 2, an empirical analysis was performed using the TAM model to verify the factors affecting the intention to use the metaverse dance platform. In addition, it was verified whether there was a difference in influencing factors according to the ballet/non-ballet group. Each variable was set based on previous studies, and sample data were collected after providing images applying ballet movements to avatars for conceptual understanding and indirect experience of the metaverse dance platform. A total of 324 valid responses were collected, and SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0 were used for empirical analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that perceived enjoyment among the characteristics of the metaverse technology had a high positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness and emotional involvement. Among the characteristics of serious leisure, it was confirmed that leisure career had a positive (+) effect on emotional involvement, and leisure identity had a negative (-) effect. The path of self-efficacy and emotional involvement was also found to have a positive (+) relationship, and in particular, it was found that self-efficacy had a strong positive (+) effect on perceived ease of use. It was found that perceived ease of use and emotional involvement had a positive (+) effect on perceived usefulness, and it was confirmed that perceived usefulness, ease of use, and emotional involvement all had a significant effect on intention to use. This can be understood that users perceive metaverse technology usefully through emotional involvement of the fun, enjoyment, and user's psychological characteristics. In addition, as a result of conducting a multi-group analysis between ballet/non-ballet groups, the ballet group was found that perceived usefulness had a high positive (+) effect on the intention to use, while for the non-ballet group, perceived ease of use had a high positive (+) effect on the intention to use. It was confirmed that in order to implement a high user experience in the metaverse platform, it is important to differentiate the approach by dance genre and build content and creative tools linked to the user's real experience and context. This study has the following implications. In Study 1, the traditional dance performance industry was expanded to a digital environment through an analysis of the convergence dance ecosystem using metaverse and the value flow of new stakeholders was verified. In particular, the dance participation market, which was considered part of personal leisure activities, was combined with the values of 'creation', 'participation', and 'community' of Metaverse to define it as a new value actor and suggested an industrial strategy of dance. In Study 2, the factors affecting the intention to use the metaverse dance platform were identified, and practical measures were prepared for the construction of the platform in the future by deriving differences between groups by dance genre. This study believes that metaverse technology that combines reality and virtual will be advanced and popularized, and studied the composition of the convergence dance ecosystem and the flow of new value creation from the perspective of the dance industry. As a result, the new value and possibility of the convergence dance ecosystem were confirmed through the establishment of a metaverse dance platform. Ultimately, this is believed to expand the dance industry ecosystem and enrich the real dance experience of watching performance and participation. It is expected that the results of this study will connect the performance industry and the participating market in the dance industry and provide various strategies through technology convergence going forward.
