This study is conducted by a qualitative research on the psychological difficulties and coping process of adult children who experienced parental divorce. When the study participants were recruited, an in-depth interview was conducted. During the interview, the study participants were asked in detail how they experienced or found out about the divorce of their parents, the psychological difficulties they experienced after the divorce of their parents, and the process of coping with them. Most of them responded to one face-to-face interview, and some study participants conducted a remote interview for personal reasons. When reinforcement interviews were necessary, questions were asked by phone or text message. The study results were derived as follows. The causal condition is ‘shocking parental divorce’. Contextual conditions are 'one-sided decision-making by parents', 'low attachment relationship with birth parents', 'conflict within the new family', and 'difficulty due to parental vacancy'. Her parents unilaterally decided to divorce, and she maintained a low attachment relationship with her biological parents. There were conflicts with the stepparents, and there were difficulties in taking care of the younger siblings financially and emotionally due to the vacancy of the parents. The central phenomenon is ‘psychological pain’. Psychological pain includes 'depression', 'frustration/anxiety of the neglected child', 'extreme emotional confusion', 'increasing self-blame and self-hatred', 'resentment/anger towards birth parents', 'loss of hope for family', ' distrust of others'. The mediating conditions are 'help from a psychological support group' and 'intra-individual variables'. Friends, church people, and family members living together became psychological support groups. Interpersonal variables include the ability to cope with stress. Action/interaction is 'active coping to overcome psychological difficulties' and 'avoidant coping'. Active coping to overcome psychological difficulties includes 'individual effort', 'effort through interpersonal relationships', and 'effort using spirituality'. Avoidant coping refers to excessive preoccupation with animations, books, and games by avoiding reality. The result is 'adaptation and growth' and 'unsolved tasks'. Adaptation and growth include 'personal growth', 'interpersonal growth', and 'spiritual growth'. Unsolved tasks include 'atrophy in interpersonal relationships' and 'difficulty in forming deep relationships'.
