ABSTRACT
A Phenomenological Study on the Remarriage Experiences of Female Marriage Immigrants with Their Native Spouses Focused on Chinese and Vietnamese Women
LIM, YOU-JIN Department of Social Welfare Graduate School of Soongsil University
This study started from the phenomenon that female marriage immigrants choose a man from their native country as a remarriage spouse after a divorce with a Korean husband, and their remarriage experience is different from that of their first marriage with a Korean man. The study aims to help understand the new types of multicultural families by revealing the nature of their experiences. To achieve this goal, four female marriage immigrants were interviewed in depth. As a result of the study, the essence of the experience of remarriage of female marriage immigrants with a man from their native countries was captured as anxiety of a new Korean life that could not be put down and chosen for a better future. The theoretical implications of the study are as follows. First, it was confirmed that female marriage immigrants remarried men from their own countries, strengthening their self-consciousness and shifting to an active attitude. Second, The meaning of female married immigrants living in Korea even after remarrying a man from their own country in Korea is to maintain their current job in Korea. Third, the factors that give female marriage migrants stability in their remarriage life senses that they have fewer conflicts with their in-laws. This was analyzed as the impact of physically independent living and remittances. Fourth, the initiative was confirmed when selecting a remarried spouse of female marriage immigrants. Fifth, when female marriage migrants invited a man from their home country to marry again, it was found that female marriage migrants played a role similar to that of Korean spouses. The policy implications are as follows. First, the situation and position of marriage immigrants should be reflected in implementing policies to counter the low birth rate and work-family balance. Second, qualifications for various committees should be granted, or opportunities such as events should be expanded, so they can participate in society without being isolated in Korean culture. Third, multicultural acceptance education in the military should be developed, and protective measures should be prepared so that children can demonstrate their sense of duty and competence as multicultural soldiers. Fourth, Korean and bilingual education should be provided in terms of lifelong education. Fifth, it is necessary to reflect the new family type of remarried families from their own country in multicultural policies and seek policies, so they are not isolated. The practical implications are mainly for reference by organizations related to multicultural services or field workers, and the contents are as follows. First, the relationship between the original family and the children is related to the activation of couples and family programs, such as self-focus and self-differentiation. Second, after these group activities, it is useful to organize self-help groups. Third, opportunities public-private cooperation for positive exposure of multicultural families should be expanded to increase acceptance of various forms of multicultural families. Fourth, various approaches are needed to promote close relationships between remarried couples and remarried families from their home countries. This study aims to help understand female marriage immigrants through the statements of their spouses and their remarriage experiences. However, female marriage immigrants choose a spouse from their home country under conditions that would not cause conflict in remarriage. In addition, the duration of remarriage is 3 to 8 years, which is insufficient for various family dynamics to occur. Therefore, a follow-up study proposes a study targeting female marriage immigrants who have remarried in their home country for more than ten years. To improve their relationship, it is necessary to study the modeling of happy remarriage life centered on remarried couples from their home country. Also, it is thought that the study from the perspective of second-generation Korean children living with their native husband, who is a remarriage party, and a foreign mother and a foreign stepfather will be meaningful.
