The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between participation motivation, exercise addiction, and psychological happiness of weight training participants, and to prove the mediating effect of exercise addiction in the relationship between participation motivation and psychological happiness. The subjects of this study were 250 adult men and women participating in weight training at fitness centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, using the convenience sampling method among the non-probability sampling methods. 250 questionnaires were distributed and all were collected, and 247 questionnaires were used for the analysis of this study after removing three of the questionnaires that were unfaithful and duplicated. Data processing was analyzed as follows using the Window SPSS 28.0 statistical program. For data analysis, reliability analysis using Frequency Analysis, Exploratory factor analysis, Reliability analysis using Cronbach's α, t-test and one-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Analysis, and multiple regression analysis, Baron & Kenny(1986) are performed as follows. First, among the demographic characteristics, there were differences in gender, job, exercise frequency, motivation for participation according to exercise time, and exercise addiction psychological happiness. Second, in the relationship between participation motivation, exercise addiction, and psychological happiness, participation motivation was found to have a significant effect on exercise addiction and psychological well-being, and exercise addiction also had a significant effect on psychological happiness. Third, exercise addiction was found to play a mediating role in the relationship between participation motivation and psychological happiness. In other words, the higher the external and internal motivation is given to weight training participants, the higher the attachment to exercise, leading to withdrawal symptoms when they fail to exercise, and the desire to participate in exercise becomes stronger. As a result, when participating in exercise, immersion and confidence in exercise increase, and high pleasure and happiness can be experienced. This suggests that exercise addiction plays an important variable and mediating role between the participation motivation of weight training participants and psychological happiness. This study is meaningful in that weight training participants know the importance of participation motivation and positive exercise addiction and form correct exercise habits to increase psychological happiness and use them as basic data for weight training activation.
