To prevent cross-infection of COVID-19 and infectious diseases, this study attempted to provide basic data for practicing cross-infection prevention at dental institutions by investigating dental hygienists' knowledge, attitudes, and wearing of personal protective equipment related to COVID-19 infection control. The subjects of this study were 285 dental hygienists who agreed to participate in the study working at dental institutions in Busan and Gyeongsang from March 31 to April 26, 2022. The general characteristics of the study subjects were high in women by gender, 20s by age, professional bachelor's degree, dental hospital for working institutions, 1 to 5 years of working experience, rank is employees, and personal protective equipment of dental institutions was the most equipped with four types. Dental hygienists' knowledge of personal protective equipment related to COVID-19 infection control was 17.16 points out of 20, and dental hygienists' attitude toward personal protective equipment related to COVID-19 infection control was 4.09 points on average out of 5. When dental hygienists work at dental institutions, the average of wearing facial protective gear was 3.19 points, Wearing masks averaged 4.84 points, wearing gloves averaged 3.85 points, and wearing full-body protective clothing scored 1.28 points. The higher the knowledge of personal protective equipment was, the higher the wear rate of gloves was, and the higher the attitude toward personal protective equipment was, the higher the wear rate of KF94 masks was. The higher the wear rate of facial protectors was, the higher the wear rate of gloves and full-body protective clothing was, and the higher the wear rate of gloves was, the higher the wear rate of full-body protective clothing was. Based on the above research results, it is necessary to provide continuous and systematic infection control prevention education, develop personal protective equipment convenient to wear at dental institutions, and support personal protective equipment at dental institutions.
