This paper proposes a reduction method of engine vibration with a phase-based frequency adaptable repetitive controller for 48V mild hybrid electric vehicles. Since the engine generates torque with four-strokes, it always involves a torque pulsation, which causes vibration and noise of the vehicle. In hybrid vehicles, the engine vibration is actively alleviated by using a motor. Conventional methods for reducing engine vibration are focused on generating a torque reference of the motor by estimating torque pulsations or torsional vibration of the engine. However, the torque ripple of the engine consists of harmonic components of the engine speed, which requires accurate torque control performance of the motor. A repetitive controller effectively eliminates periodic errors. A phase-based repetitive controller has been proposed as a scheme to ensure control performance even when the frequency variation. The phase-based repetitive controller does not require modification of the existing control system and uses a relatively small number of memories. However, the frequency variation range is narrow compared to other frequency adaptive repetitive controllers. The phase-based repetitive controller has a wide frequency variation range in this paper. The operation principle, the stability, and the fractional delay are analyzed according to the frequency variation. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
