The purpose of this study was to explore the subjective ethical dilemma experiences of novice youth counselors, primarily focusing on the dilemmas they encounter and the meaning behind their coping processes. To achieve this, participants were recruited using purposive sampling. The participants were novice youth counselors who had worked in public youth institutions such as youth counseling & welfare centers for a period of 3 months to 3 years, and had completed graduate-level courses related to "counseling ethics." In-depth interviews were conducted with six novice youth counselors who agreed to participate in the study, using a semi-structured questionnaire. The research employed a qualitative case study design, and data analysis followed Stake's (1995) four-step process, resulting in 280 meanings, 15 subcategories, and 5 main categories. The findings of the study revealed the following: First, the category "Ethical Dilemma of Confusion and Conflict" emerged, indicating that novice youth counselors initially had an understanding of ethics but experienced ongoing confusion and continuous conflict when faced with ethical dilemmas in counseling situations. Second, the category "Ignorance and Anxiety Toward Ethical Counseling" revealed that novice youth counselors became uncertain and anxious due to a lack of interest and inadequate education in ethics, which hindered their counseling performance. Third, the category "Content of Ethical Dilemmas" identified the main ethical dilemma situations encountered by novice youth counselors, including ensuring client confidentiality, maintaining and managing counseling records, boundaries between clients and their guardians, counseling while experiencing burnout, and organizational challenges. Fourth, the category "Coping with Ethical Dilemmas" highlighted the coping strategies employed by novice youth counselors in ethical dilemma situations, such as seeking supervision and utilizing resources from colleagues and relying on existing knowledge to navigate the situations. Fifth, the category "Development as Professional Counselors" emphasized that novice youth counselors viewed ethical dilemma experiences as crucial for their growth as ethical counselors and expressed a proactive attitude toward addressing the challenges. Based on these findings, several implications for the development of novice youth counselors in performing ethical counseling were identified. First, systematic ethics education for counselors is necessary. Second, realistic policies or systems that protect both counselors and clients should be established. Third, active support and supply of resources are needed to foster novice youth counselors. Finally, the significance, limitations, and recommendations for further research are discussed.
