This research explores the creative process and analysis of the dance work , leveraging the concept of upcycling, predicated on expanded environmental awareness through the understanding of sustainability and upcycling. Furthermore, it aims to explore a new choreographic style that encompasses environmental, artistic, economic, and social values. Accordingly, following the methodology of practice-based research, every stage of the research process is accumulated as embodied data. The research proposes theoretical underpinnings for the piece by applying concepts of sustainability and upcycling, and describes the creative and production process of the work . To design an analysis method for the dance work, it adopts three of the four stages - composition, form, and interpretation excluding evaluation - based on Janet Adshead’s method of dance analysis, establishing the criteria for analysis. In addition, it classifies detailed contents in each analytical framework and analyzes them from various perspectives. As a result, the research is able to expand environmental consciousness by promoting environmental values. It also provides a fresh perspective on the creative method, facilitating the exploration of a new choreographic genre termed 'Upcycling Dance'. The production method of upcycling can be widely applied to various aspects of dance art, including movement, stage, props, music, costumes, and personnel, contributing to social and economic advancement and innovation. Ultimately, it highlights the significance of environmental values. Furthermore, in the contemporary context of the global environmental crisis, this work serves as a catalyst for spreading interest and discourse on sustainability and upcycling through the field of dance art. It is expected that innovative topics and methods based on the concept of upcycling dance will continue to be discovered and meaningful research will be pursued.
