Conventional lithium-ion batteries(LIB) use a combustible organic liquid electrolyte, so there is a risk of flame and explosion. To overcome this, research is being actively conducted on all-solid-state batteries that do not pose a fire risk by replacing flammable liquid electrolyte with solid electrolyte. Cathode materials for all-solid-state batteries are fundamentally similar to materials used in LIB (LiNixCoyMnz, LiFePO4), but the utilization of materials previously deemed impractical for anode (lithium metal, silicon) due to their high reactivity with liquid electrolyte has raised expectations of overcoming the limitations of LIB. Among these, silicon (Si) is recognized as an attractive material for anode in all-solid-state batteries due to its theoretical capacity of 4200 mAh g-1, allowing for a high energy density. Si also eliminates continuous side reactions in liquid electrolyte. However, there are limitations in lifespan and rate capability due to problems such as low conductivity and deterioration of mechanical properties due to large volume changes during charging and discharging. In this study, to enhance the lifespan and rate capability, we aim to simultaneously improve the ion conductivity and electrical conductivity of Si by modifying the Si surface through a sol-gel process involving L6PS5Cl and carbon nanotube (CNT). As a result of Si surface modification, it is confirmed through XRD, SEM, Raman, and TEM analysis that L6PS5Cl and CNT are uniformly coated on the Si surface as intended, and that electrochemical performance is significantly improved when applied to the anode for all-solid-state batteries. The initial reversible capacity of the full cell using the surface modified Si (Smart Si) increases from 177 mAh g-1 to 210 mAh g-1 and correspondingly, the initial Coulombic efficiency increases from 70.0 % to 83.5 %. Additionally, cycle performances and C-rate capability of Smart Si anode is extremely superior to those of bare silicon anode. Verification of these electrochemical enhancements is validated through analyses of electrode expansion characteristics before- and after-cycling and EIS. Key words : silicon, all solid state batteries, carbon nanotube, L6PS5Cl, rate capability
