The purpose of this study is to read about children's learning through re-viewing documentation. Accordingly, in this study, through self-research, the researcher looked back at the teacher's documentations to reviewing the young children's learning and explored the process of returning it back to the teacher, the researcher. Based on the researcher's documentations of young children from March 2021 to August 2023, educational writing and reconstructed writing were collected. The collected data went through a process of content analysis and categorization, and together with early childhood education experts, the final categorization work was drawn up and the meaning in the documentations was interpreted and described. The researcher re-examined the documentations, discovered the young children's learning in them, and returned to the researcher's classroom to look at the young children again, capturing the process of creating a map of learning again. Accordingly, the researcher investigated with the hope of getting closer to the world of young children.
The research results revealed through this study are as follows. First, by reviewing the documentations left after observing the young children, the researcher was able to face the teacher in the documentations. By looking at the documentations the teacher left at the time, the researcher was able to discover new learning along with the learning seen by the teacher. Although the researcher was following the young child's play following the teacher's gaze, the researcher was looking at the young child's play from another perspective that the teacher had not yet discovered. At the time, I encountered moments of the young children's learning that the teacher had not yet discovered while recording them, and as I discovered the young children's new learning, I had the expectation that I would be able to discover something new by reviewing the documentations. Additionally, by looking at the young children's play in the documentations, the researcher was able to connect it to the young children's play they were currently engaging in. By looking at the documentations, I looked at how the teacher at the time was providing support, and the flow of play at the time, and thought about what kind of play support I could provide in connection with the flow of play in the classroom today. By reviewing the documentations, learning was discovered with a new perspective, and the documentations returned to the researcher, facing the teacher in the current classroom and returning to the teacher who was the curriculum implementer. By looking back at the documentations, I was able to see how the young children's behavior could be viewed from the young child's perspective rather than the teacher's perspective, and by approaching the young child's perspective, I was able to discover the young child's learning. Accordingly, teachers can get closer to the world of young children by reviewing the documentations.
Second, looking at the documentations again, I paid more attention to the young children's learning. Young children were encountering the world around them and creating learning through play. At this time, we were able to discover the moment when the young child was faced with learning. The infant continued to move and face the world through play. Also, rather than just stopping at movement, young children were creating differences through their senses and learning in the process. Infants encounter materials with all their senses and move while feeling the joy they discover in the process. These experiences do not just stay, but continue to act and create learning in young children. As the scattered plays in the documentations were connected, the researcher discovered that new learning was visible. Regardless of the teacher's intention, young children sometimes created new, unpredictable learning, and young children's learning was created as unexpected events occurred.
Third, it was not easy to keep documentations as the daycare routine was so busy. Additionally, the teacher's daily routine was too busy to attempt to review the accumulated documentations. However, as a teacher, the researcher wanted to understand the world of young children, and was able to get closer to the world of young children through reviewing the documentations. Through this process, the researcher was able to learn the value of documentations and discover that there were changes in observing and recording the current classroom. As we looked at young children's play more broadly and tried to observe and record young children's actions while facing the world, we found that the contents of the documentations became more diverse. In other words, new learning was discovered through reviewing the documentations, and the process left a trace on the researcher, and rather than stopping there, he was acting again. While understanding the most important young children here, I admired the young children in the documentations, and as a teacher, I began to think about how to share the young children's learning moments. Accordingly, the researcher said that it is necessary for teachers to follow the young children's lives and focus more on and record the young children's gaze, actions, and voices at moments of learning.
A discussion of the results of this study is as follows. This study indicates that records need to be revisited rather than hoarded. In addition, it is emphasized that the records are intertwined and created separately from the young children's learning through reviewing the documentations. Furthermore, it suggests that documentations have agency and that teachers must redraw the map of young children's learning.
