이 연구는 국내기업의 정보화 투자비용과 투자효과 현황을 분석하고, 수집 데이터를 토대로 여러 선행 연구에서 제시된 IT효과 창출모델의 타당성을 검증하였다. 2005년 국내 기업의 IT예산은 매출액 대비 2.53%로서 종전에 비하여 약간 증가하였으며, IT효과 역시 예전보다 상당히 높아진 수준으로 발생하고 있다. 그러나 일반적 예상과는 달리, 여러 선행 연구에서 논쟁 중인 IT예산과 IT효과 사이의 상관관계는 통계적으로 유의하지 않으며, 이 외에도 일부 연구에서 중요한 요인으로 제시되고 있는 CEO 리더십, IT부서 역량, IT부서와 현업부서 사이의 협력 수준, 이용자 만족도 등은 IT효과에 별 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. IT효과에 영향을 미치는 것은 정보시스템 기술적 품질, 자원배분에 관한 CIO 리더십, 그리고 현업부서의 정보화 추진의지 및 활용능력 3개 요인으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 IT관리자와 연구자에게 필요한 사실정보와 향후 연구 방향을 제공할 것으로 판단된다.
