마속 식물에 대한 연구가 보다 체계적이고 효율적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 먼저 한국, 중국, 일본에 자생하는 마속 식물을 감별 및 구분하는 기준을 통일하는 작업이 필요하다고 본 이유는? | 그러나 마는 자연상태에서 종 간의 교배가 활발히 이루어져 연구를 위한 순수한 자생종의 확보가 쉽지 않고, 각 나라마다 종을 구별하는 기준이 달라 식물 표본 자체에 대한 신뢰성이 떨어진다는 문제점이 있다. 또한 마의 생리활성물질 중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하는 점액질 당단백질 성분들에 대한 추출·정제 방법이 다양하고, 분리된 성분들의 조성과 함량 역시 연구자들에 따라 다르게 보고하고 있어 종간의 효능 차이를 확인하기가 쉽지 않다. 이 같은 문제점에도 불구하고 독성이 거의 없어 성인병 및 노인성질환 등에 대한 천연물 유래 신약개발 대상으로서의 가능성이 높다는 점은 여전히 마속 식물 연구에 대한 큰 매력으로 작용한다. 실제로 마 추출물을 비롯하여 점액질 단백질과 다당류에 대한 다양한 활성 검증은 끊임없이 이루어지고 있으며, 특정 성분을 분리하여 활성을 규명하고 약리적 기전을 알아내고자 하는 시도 역시 계속되고 있다. 따라서 마속 식물에 대한 연구가 보다 체계적이고 효율적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 먼저 한국, 중국, 일본에 자생하는 마속 식물을 감별 및 구분하는 기준을 통일하는 작업이 필요하다. | |
