비만성인이 체중관리에 실패하는 경험을 반복적으로 겪게되면 어떤 일이 발생하는가? 비만성인들은 식이조절, 운동요법, 행동수정요법, 약물복용, 한방요법 등의 다양한 방법을 시도하고 있으나, 대부분 그 효과가 미미하거나 일시적이어서 체중관리에 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타나고 있다.그리고체중관리에실패하는경험이반복될수록자아존중감이 저하되어 소극적인 성격으로 변하거나 대인관계에 어려움을 겪게 되고, 심한 경우에는 거식증이나 폭식증을 나타내게 되기도 한다(Castro&Avina, 2002).
