뮤지컬의 구성요소는 무엇이 있는가? 뮤지컬의 구성요소는 대본과 음악, 연기, 춤 그리고 분장, 무대의상, 무대장치 등을 포함하는 미술이다. 대본은 뮤지컬을 이끌어 가는 전체의 시나리오이며, 배우들의 무대에서 행위를 가능하게 하는 극본으로 배우의 연기와 음악이 잘 어우러져야 그본연의 기능을 다 할 수 있다.
이 연구 결과에서 중소형 창작 뮤지컬의 의상 디자이너에게 요구되는 역할은? 이와 같은 사례분석 연구 결과를 통해 중소형 창작 뮤지컬의 의상 디자이너는 다음과 같은 역할이 요구된다. 첫째, 공연의 각 분야 스텝과의 회의에 적극 참여하여 공연의 전문성과 작품의 시각적 완성도를 높이도록 해야 한다. 비록 소규모 극단의 예산 문제로 어려움이 존재하지만, 연출가, 안무가, 조명 디자이너 등 의상 디자인에 영향을 미치는 분야의 스텝들과의 의견 교류가 간과되지 않도록 노력해야 한다. 둘째, 중소형 창작 뮤지컬 공연은 대형 라이선스 공연보다 창작의 자율성이 어느 정도 허용되므로 이를 적극 활용하여 의상 디자인을 하도록 한다. 즉, 모든 스텝과의 규칙적이고 정기적인 회의가 원활하지 않은 등의 소규모 극단 중소형 창작 뮤지컬의 작업환경을 역이용하여 연출가의 의도, 작품 콘셉트를 참고하되 보다 창의적이고 자율적인 디자인 능력을 발휘하도록 한다. 또한, 리폼이나 임차 의상의 사용에도 소재와 색채 감각에 중점을 둔 감각적인 활용 능력이 요구된다. 셋째, 중소형 창작 뮤지컬 공연의 의상 디자이너는 저예산과 짧은 제작 기간이 주어지므로 저예산에 따른 의상디자인 제작을 다각적으로 대체할 수 있어야 하며, 제작 기간의 체계적 관리 능력과 공연 시 돌발 상황에 대한 유연한 대처 능력이 요구된다.
