PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to look into relationship between image of physiotherapist and self-esteem of physiotherapy students and desirable image of physiotherapists offer to establish basic materials. METHODS: The subjects of this study are consist of 603 students of department of Physical therapy university and college in Busan and Kim-hae. Data are collected from June 9 to July 9 in 2011 by structured questionnaires. RESULTS: The result are as follows. 1. at the physiotherapist image score, the highest score question is "Physiotherapist is specialist"(3.45) and the lowest score question is "Physiotherapist is treated samely with doctor"(2.15). 2. at the self-esteem score, the highest score question is "I think that I am at least as valuable as others"(3.37) and the lowest score question is "I can be poorly sometimes"(2.81). 3. at the static results of physiotherapist image score gap by general characteristics, there are significantly different in gender(t=2.27, p=.02), similar profession distinction(t=4.30, p=.00), major satisfaction(t=5.74, p=.00), school system (t=-2.54, p=.01). 4. at the static results of self-esteem score gap by general characteristics, there are significantly different in years (f=5.14, p=.00), gender(t=4.09, p=.00), religion(f=2.87, p=.04), similar profession distinction(t=3.97, p=.00), major satisfaction(t=4.26, p=.00). 5. at the static results of good reputation of physiotherapists increase self-esteem of physiotherapy students score question are significantly different(r=0.53, p=.00). CONCLUSION: Accordingly, these results of this study that there is a very correlation between image of physiotherapist and self-esteem of physiotherapy students. Therefore, good reputation of physiotherapists increase self-esteem of physiotherapy students.

그러나 보건의료직에서 물리치료사에 대한 고등학교 교사들의 인식도에 관한 조사(Hong, 1991)가 있었으나, 이미지와 관련한 연구는 전혀 없었다. 본 조사는 물리치료사 이미지와 자아존중감의 두 개념간의 관계를 파악함으로 향후 일하게 될 의료현장에서 물리치료학과 학생들이 긍정적 직업사상을 가지고 가치 있는 한 인간으로 지각할 수 있도록 돕는 기초 자료를 삼고자 한다.

둘째, 물리치료사에 대한 이미지가 긍정적일수록 물리치료대학생들은 높은 자아존중감을 가질 것이다.

제안 방법
이미지란 구성원들이 흔히 갖는 정신적 개념으로 어떤 것에 대한 방향 결정과 기본 태도에 대한 상징이다(Webster, 1966). Lee 등(1992)이 개발한 간호사의 이미지에 관한 33개 문항을 본 연구의 목적에 맞게 수정⋅보완하여 사용하였다. 물리치료사 이미지는 측정도구 총 32문항으로 전통적 이미지 8문항, 사회적 이미지 8문항, 전문적 이미지 8문항, 직업적 이미지 8문항으로 구성되어 있다.
대상 데이터
대상자는 부산시 및 김해시에 소재한 3년제 4개 대학과 4년제 3개 대학의 물리치료학과 학생을 임의표출하였으며, 연구목적을 이해하고 참여에 동의한 자로 구조화된 자기기입식 설문조사에 응한 603명의 물리치료학과 학생을 대상으로 하였다.
자료 수집은 7개 학교 7명의 교수의 협조를 구한 후 각 학교별로 질문지를 배부하여 기록하게한 다음 회수하였다. 총 800부를 배부하여 612(76.5%) 부가 회수되었으며 이 중 자료처리에 부적합한 9부를 제외한 603부를 최종 분석에 이용하였다.
데이터처리
응답자의 일반적 특성별 요인에 대한 평균값의 차이는 독립 T-검정(Independent T-test) 및 일원배치 분산분석(one-way ANOVA)을 이용하여 분석하였다. Table 3에서 일반적 특성에 대한 물리치료사 이미지의 집단별 평균값의 차이를 살펴보면 성별(p<.
물리치료학과 학생의 일반적 특성 및 연구 변수는 기술통계를 이용하였으며, 연구 도구의 신뢰도를 파악하기 위해서는 Cronbach’s α 계수를 산출하였다. 일반적 특성에 따른 물리치료사 이미지와 자아존중감의 차이를 파악하기 위해 independent t-test와 ANOVA, 사후검정은 Scheffé 검정을 이용하였고 물리치료사 이미지와 자아존중감의 상관관계를 파악하기 위해 Pearson Correlation Coefficient를 이용하였다.

자아존중감이란 자기 자신을 존경하고, 바람직하게 여기며, 가치 있는 존재라고 생각하는 것이며(Rosenberg과 Pearlin, 1978), 본 연구에서는 Rosenberg(1962)가 개발하고 Jeon(1974)이 한국어로 번역한 자아존중감 측정 도구로 총 10문항으로 구성되어 있다. 측정 기준은 ‘매우 그렇다’ 4점, ‘매우 그렇지 않다’ 1점까지 Likert 4점 척도로 부정문항 4문항은 역환산 처리하였으며, 점수가 높을수록 자아존중감이 높음을 의미한다.

직업 이미지를 형성함에 있어서 물리치료학과 학생 들은 임상의 물리치료사들에 의해서 가장 많은 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 물리치료사의 직업 이미지가 좋은 학생들일수록 자아존중감에서 높은 자아존중감을 보여 스스로를 가치 있는 사람으로 생각하는 것으로 나타났다.
후속연구
향후 지역을 확대하여 전국 여러 곳의 대학을 대상으로 하는 연구와 임상 물리치료사를 대상으로 이루어지는 후속, 반복 연구가 요구되어진다. 또한 물리치료학과 대학생들의 임상실습 전 후 물리치료사 이미지에 긍정적, 부정적 이미지 형성에 영향을 주는 요인에 대한 후속연구가 필요하리라고 사료된다.
이번 연구에서 나온 결과를 통해 긍정적인 자아상반영, 전문인다운 행동, 계속교육 제공, 일반 대중을 위한 교육 실시, 대중매체 활용, 전문직 활동에 다양한 참여 등 물리치료사의 긍정적인 이미지를 향상시키는데 광범위하게 적용할 수 있는 다각도의 노력이 필요함을 제언하는 바이다.
본 연구의 제한점은 자료 수집에 있어서 부산시 및 김해시에 소재한 3년제 4개 대학과 4년제 3개 대학의 물리치료학과 학생들을 대상으로 조사하였기 때문에본 연구의 결과를 일반화하여 확대 해석하기에는 부족한 점이 있으며, 연구를 진행하는 중 물리치료사나 물리치료학과 학생을 대상으로 한 이미지와 자아존중감에 관한 논문이 전혀 없어서 비교 고찰하는데 제한이 있었다. 향후 지역을 확대하여 전국 여러 곳의 대학을 대상으로 하는 연구와 임상 물리치료사를 대상으로 이루어지는 후속, 반복 연구가 요구되어진다. 또한 물리치료학과 대학생들의 임상실습 전 후 물리치료사 이미지에 긍정적, 부정적 이미지 형성에 영향을 주는 요인에 대한 후속연구가 필요하리라고 사료된다.
