패션과 건축의 공통점 중 가장 중요한 부분은 무엇인가? 또한 과거 대부분 시대의 예술양식들을 살펴보면 그 외관의 형태적 특성에서 건축과 패션의 유사성을 찾아볼 수 있다. 패션과 건축이 타 분야와 다르게 가지는 공통점 중 가장 중요한 부분은 바로 의식주의 요소이자 3차원의 공간형태로 신체와 직접적으로 접촉한다는 점이다. 따라서 패션과 건축을 연구하고 디자인할 때에는 인간이 직접 그것을 사용한다는 기능적인 측면을 고려하지 않을 수 없다.
