본 연구는 미국 문헌정보학과 홈페이지에 나타난 강령분석을 바탕으로 문헌정보학의 주요 개념에 대한 담론을 연구하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 비평적 담론분석을 사용하였으며, 1) 문헌정보학 강령구조의 접근성, 제목, 구조를 조사하였으며, 2) 정체성 분석을 위해 의무적 용법, 어휘분석, 행위분석을 실시하였다. 3) 문헌정보학의 다양성을 분석하기 위하여 비교분석을 통한 문헌정보학과의 특성을 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 담론분석을 문헌정보학 분야와 연계하여 정체성을 밝히는 연구의 예가 될 것으로 기대한다.
