Operations Research의 시초는 무엇인가? Operations Research(OR)는 2차 대전 중에 군사 운영에 관한 여러 문제를 과학자와 엔지니어들이 팀을 이루어 수학과 과학적 방법을 적용하여 해결한 데서 시작되었다. 대전 후 이들 기법이 산업에 적용되면서 OR은 경영과학(Management Science)과 동의어로 사용되었다.
국내에서 경영과학 교육이 가지는 한계는 무엇인가? 그러나 문제를 바라보는 시스템적 접근이나 분석에 대한 논의, 그리고 문제가 지닌 현실적 상황을 이해하려는 시도가 충분히 이루어지지 않고 있다고 본다. 이와 함께, 대부분의 국내외 경영과학 관련 교재는 문제중심의 사고를 위한 것이라기보다는 기법중심의 사고를 위한 것으로, 학생들에게 문제가 갖는 다양한 측면을 계속적으로 고민하고 바라볼 수 있는 능력을 단절시키며 연결시켜주지 못한다는 한계점을 갖는다. 따라서 통합적이고 체계적이며, 과학적인 문제 해결 능력을 배양시킬수 있는 교육 방향을 고민해 보아야 한다.
