다문화사회로 접어듦에 따라 각종 부적응문제 발생이 예견되었던 이유는? 현재 많은 다문화가정은 경제적 빈곤, 사회적 부적응, 민족 및 인종 차별, 국제결혼 자녀의 차별 등의 문제에 직면해 있으며[31], 서로 출신국이 다른 남녀가 결혼 전까지 사용하던 언어와 음식, 주거 등 살아온 배경과 문화적 차이가 있음에도 불구하고, 충분한 적응과정 없이 곧바로 결혼생활을 시작하기 때문에 각종 부적응문제의 발생은 예견되어 있는 문제이다. 또한, 다문화가정의 주거문제는 결혼이민자의 직접적인 가족문제, 자녀문제를 다루기보다는 문화적 측면을 다루는, 2차적이거나 부수적인 문제라고 생각되어 소홀히 다루어져 왔다.
